Revision needed for entry on Julian of Norwich

This gives the date of May 13 as the date of the commemoration of Julian of Norwich, but wrongly has parentheses that say "Anglican". In fact, as the article on Julian of Norwich itself clarifies, May 13 is her commemoration day in the Roman Catholic church; in the Anglican Church, her feast day is May 8. It does seem rather strange that Wikipedia does not always learn from other Wikipedia articles! ACEOREVIVED (talk) 21:24, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

I Don't Believe It

On this day in 1939, it says the first commercial FM station in the US is launched. I realize it doesn't say it began broadcasting FM that day, merely that it was launched. I checked and see no articles that verify it and see no verification elsewhere on the internet in my limited search. How does one know if it is true or not?

Plea for consistency

Looking through the list for items from the 1940's I was surprised that there seems no consistency in listing of opposing forces.

1940 – Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands flees her country to Great Britain after the Nazi invasion. Princess Juliana takes her children to Canada for their safety. 1941 – World War II: Yugoslav royal colonel Dragoljub Mihailović starts fighting with German occupation troops, beginning the Serbian resistance. 1943 – World War II: German Afrika Korps and Italian troops in North Africa surrender to Allied forces.

The item for 1940 refers to a 'Nazi invasion'. The item for 1941 refers to 'German occupation troops'. The item for 1943 refers to 'German and Italian troops' versus 'Allied forces'

If the invasion of a country is by 'Nazis' then the occupation of a country must also be by 'Nazis'. Or both articles should refer to Germans.

If reference is made to combatants from more than one country, surely it should read 'Allied' versus 'Axis' soldiers? Or the combatants on the Allied side should be listed by country too.

The practice of referring to combatants according to the politics of their leadership seems odd. Was the Cold War fought between the Communists and the Capitalists? Or was it between America and Russia (and allies)? Was the Falklands War a war between Capitalists and Fascist forces or would it be correct to refer to it as a war between Britain and Argentina?

I feel that reference to Nazi' forces may be common but it is not accurate. Wikipedia should be striving for accuracy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Robata (talk • contribs) 11:33, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Unnecessary removal of “non-notable people”

Many entries were removed by Eddie Scarpa. The removals were of actors, playwrights, philanthropists, musicians, etc. that had links to Wikipedia articles of these people - a lot of work from the individuals who added them.

One that caught my attention was:

• 1908 – Eugen Kapp, Estonian composer and educator (d. 1996)

If there is a Wikipedia article about a person, that person must certainly be “notable” to those readers interested in the subject. Entries with links to Wikipedia articles should not be removed from this list!

It’s disheartening that sports fans can dictate what interests people enjoy. Just because an “editor” doesn’t know about or have an interest in some other subject is no reason to remove valid entries from a list. Please respect other people’s interests and return the removed items. Wikipedia is about sharing knowledge, and many people discover things by randomly searching lists like this. 2A02:14F:1F9:D5E6:8518:4791:7129:B8A0 (talk) 17:36, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

@Eddie Scarpa - I've also wondered what rationale/criteria you use to remove what you term to be "non-notable people" from various DOY articles. Could you please explain? Thanks, Kiwipete (talk) 17:57, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

That article is a stub. Look at the page for May 11th. It's short and concise. There is no need for the pages to be cluttered with long lists of people. There is a reason the year pages got rid of listing birthdays and deaths and moved them to individual list pages. The 1908 page does not even have the person's name listed. These individuals do not have any references and were added years ago. I suggest that there should be an individual page to list these people. Eddie Scarpa (talk) 17:04, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
