AARGH! After taking >1 hour to compare everything, and figuring out where the best place to put it would be, I almost totally messed up my first time actually nominating articles on VfD... Finally figured out how to get everything saved correctly. I don't think I'll be listing anythng on VfD anytime soon, at least nothing with quite so long a title! --VikÞor 04:55, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)

finding VfD discussion?[edit]

How do I find the Vote for Deletion discussion for a specific article?

Specifically the article on Bald Knob Cross?

I put a link to it in the article on Alto Pass, Illinois, on 15 August 2004. I beleive that I was linking to a specific article, not making a blank link. (Yes, I will admit I am not a major contributor to WP.) as I seem to recall finding the article on the cross and adding the link from Alto Pass.

Bald Knob Cross is a major landmark in southern Illinois, and I would like to find out why the article was deleted.

Please also reply in my talk page. Thanks!

Usually you can see a short reasoning for an article's deletion on the deletion log. If it states it was deleted due to the VfD or AfD, you can just visit Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/ or Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/name of page. Anyway, I couldn't find any record in the deletion log that a Bald Knob Cross article was deleted. — TheKMantalk 04:13, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bald Knob Cross[edit]

By all means, feel free to expand it! I used to use it as a landmark while in flight school and had meant to look it up before but just hadn't yet. I was surprised to see that there wasn't an article on it. Dismas|(talk) 04:49, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mac Info[edit]

do you know of any programs that Mac Users can use to help in editing/revising articles? I've come across several for Windows boxes, but not seen anything for Mac OS. stuff like User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof Thanks for any info!! VikÞor [[User talk:Vik-Thor|Talk]] 21:34, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know of any. Though you can still add scripts to your monobook page. You can find them here: Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts. Some of them are pretty handy. One I use often adds a tab at the top of articles between the "+" and "history" called the zero tab. It's handy if you want to edit just the

Tom Hughes[edit]

I agree. Tom Hughes (Australian politician) would be the form consistent with other similar articles. Adam 05:16, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quilt photo[edit]

Seems to work for me. --Liface 04:01, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My mom. I should really get her to expand the quilting article. --Liface 07:02, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Vik-Thor: please go through the full procedure for requesting a possibly controversial move listed at WP:RM for your requested move of Community television. This was your reasoning, so you don't have to retype it:

I think this page should be split. The section about the Australian Community Television should have its own page (maybe Community Television (Australian) since it sounds almost like a seperate network in Australia, something like PBS in the US.) Then the first few paragraphs, and the see also links from the 26 September edit should stay here on Community television. (as a sort of Disambiguation page). Then have Community Television redirect here?

Love Jones[edit]

Hi,

Thanks for disambiguating Love Jones. I have now moved Love Jones (1997 film) to Love Jones (film). For future reference, please note that we usually only add the year to film article titles when more than one film of the same name exists. Cheers. TheMadBaron 16:54, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Using {{copyvio}}[edit]

Thanks for turning over possible copyright violations to WP:CP. Just some tips on the procedures to facilitate processing :

  • When tagging a page that is entirely copyvio, blank off the existing content and replace with tag. (Yes, this is OK)
  • When tagging, remember to include the perimeter 'url=http://...' with the source website (for example, {{copyvio|url=http://www.copyvioblah.com}})

Happy editing! :) - Cheers, Mailer Diablo 18:19, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Vik-Thor. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Camino icon.png) was found at the following location: User:Vik-Thor. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 08:00, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vik-Thor removed 5 seperate messages posted wihin 3 minutes... all about the Camino image. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 10:37, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of The Blame-its[edit]

A tag has been placed on The Blame-its requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Jasynnash2 (talk) 13:21, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Upcoming Wikimedia events in Missouri and Kansas![edit]

You're invited to 3 exciting events Wikipedians are planning in your region this June—a tour and meetup at the National Archives in Kansas City, and Wiknics in Wichita and St. Louis:

Kansas City
Saturday, June 16, starting at 9 a.m.National Archives in Kansas City
  • This full-day event will include a tour of the facility; presentations from National Archives Wikipedian-in-Residence, Dominic McDevitt-Parks, and Exhibit Specialist, Dee Harris; and time in the research room to work on projects. The focus of the projects will be scanning, writing articles, transcribing, or categorizing images on Commons.

Wikipedians from St. Louis and elsewhere in the region are encouraged to make a day-trip of it and come to Kansas City for this special opportunity!

And two local editions of the Great American Wiknic, the "picnic anyone can edit." Come meet (and geek out with, if you want) your local Wikipedians in a laid-back atmosphere:

Wichita

You're invited to Wikipedia Takes St. Louis![edit]

Dust off your Polaroid camera and pack your best lenses. The first-ever Wikipedia Takes St. Louis photo hunt kicks off Sat, Sept. 15, around noon in downtown St. Louis. Tour the streets of the Rome of the West with other Wikipedians and even learn a little St. Louis history. This event is a fun and collaborative way to enhance St. Louis articles with visual content. Novice photographers welcome! Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 07:59, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We got good weather. Hope you'll make it downtown for all the action! Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 08:12, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

98.81.14.72 and refactoring[edit]

Refactoring is ... well, read the link, it's more complicated than I can explain here. The gist is that while done properly, edits to other people's comments to ease the overall readability of a discussion can be beneficial, removing other people's comments from somewhere other than your own user talk page (with a few exceptions), or editing them to change their substance, is a no-no. The first edit you shared is, however, one I would permit as, even though it was posted by an actual user, one whose deletion doesn't bother me as it was a templated notice of an action already taken. The second one is a well-meaning cleanup of the other writer's grammar and punctuation of the sort that should be gently discouraged because sometimes people regard that as a subtle personal attack.

In sum, I think this IP needs to be talked to about this but it hasn't reached the level of needing a block. Daniel Case (talk) 14:33, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
