Should this page be split up into two, "Dike: Construction" and "Dike: Goddess", perhaps? I'm new to Wikipedia, so any advice would be appreciated. -- dpol

About the term "dyke" as used for a lesbian... Is it really used to describe a "masculine" lesbian? I thought the slang was used to encompass all lesbians? I'm heterosexual, and I always thought it was a general term, but maybe the gay community uses it specifically for the more masculine lesbians? Please clarify... dave

ok I just looked it up on http://www.urbandictionary.com and it seems to be mainly used for "butchy" and/or "masculine" lesbians. It also seems that according to that website, dyke is the more common spelling of the two. dave 18:06 14 Jul 2003 (UTC)
According to what I saw on http://www.dictionary.com, "dike" is never used for a lesbian, "dyke" is used instead. Dike or dyke is only for the other meanings. dave 18:12 14 Jul 2003 (UTC)

We need to use the "What link here" page and find all links to dike, or dyke, and change them to dike (goddess) or dike (construction). dave 19:37 15 Jul 2003 (UTC)

Consolidation[edit]

I've remade the 'Dyke' and 'Dike' pages back into a single page (instead of two disambig pages with bad links) is that the intention of disambig pages is to point people to the correct page. Part of this, and especially in this case, is that where there are multiple options on spelling for the same word then it is best practice to bring them together rather than requiring users to click between "see also" links or duplicating the links on each page which will, over time, separate. In this case there were even cases of the same target page having different links from each page rather than the same one! --Vamp:Willow 08:41, 2 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
