Untitled[edit]

Thanks for tidying this up for me, Tim. I've just been reading the page about stubs, and I think I'd better put some more flesh on the bones. I'll have a look at some other town entries to get some clues about formatting and content. I'll do that tomorrow, but for now thanks and goodnight

Just out of interest, what exactly is infamous about Trowbridge's snooker Club where Stephen Lee played? Celtmist 16 Apr 2006
The "Snooker Club" also doubles as a nightclub which, like all nightclubs, can either be loved or loathed by the town and it's residents. --82.69.20.69 21:33, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to explain my modifications. I don't think the sentence about 'pointless existence' added anything. The lack of town facilities and high crime rate is detailed separately in the article, and it didn't read in an objective manner.

I think that while the details of the town centre on a Friday or Saturday night are generally accurate (I used to live in Trowbridge), they need to be re-written to read in a more objective way. If there are no huge objections I'll do this at some point. Cheers Lukehounsome 15.37, 12 Sept. 2006 (UTC)

Due to a 'Tone' box being added to this section, I have rewritten the Tesco development and Pubs sections. Adding some

refs I could find. I would like to pin a more exact date on the Tesco move though. I tried to make the sections less POV and more formal. Cheers Lukehounsome 13.12, 15 Sept. 2006 (UTC)

i have edited out the phrase 'well done trowbridge' re-violent crime as it was sarcastic, unimformative and spelt incorrectly 84.92.180.137 18:06, 21 October 2006 (UTC)r .trowbridge84.92.180.137 18:06, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pubs[edit]

'There are several chain pubs including J.D.Wetherspoon's "Sir Isaac Pitman".'

I have the misfortune to live in Trowbridge and I disagree with this - there are several pubs in the town centre, but Wetherspoon's is the only 'chain' pub.FlubClub 17:36, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Crime Section[edit]

Near the bottom of the subsection there is a long paragraph which states numerous crime figures. Might i suggest this be cleaned up, perhaps with a graphical depiction rather than a mere list? I'd do it myself but being new to the Editing interface i wouldnt really know how, and id hate to ruin the article with my ineptness 212.169.0.226 15:02, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Overhauled[edit]

Including more referencing, better reference display, updating in parts. Also removal of the unsourced ("someone said something like the same" is not a reference) bit about "Ibiza" - there's no similarity at all in truth, and so the anecdote is poor. If Tom Cruise, for instance, had visited and said that, then it would have been somewhat notable!

Took some dubious names (redlinks) off the famous residents section, checked out the rest as genuine. Concerned to note that Clifton doesn't appear anywhere on the internet for disco dancing honours outside of Wikimirrors or other wiki encyclopedias (therefore not bona fide sources according to guidelines), so if anyone has anything in print about him and his dancing, put a reference in. Population[edit]

Surely the following sentence is incorrect:

"The civil parish of Trowbridge had a population of 28,148 according to the 2001 census, making it the largest town in the county, after the city of Salisbury.[1]"

Swindon is also in the county of Wilshire and has a population of over 155 000. Booshank (talk) 22:54, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

update needed[edit]

very little of the information from http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/community/getcom.php?id=228 is included in the artical, also the spifire factorys in the town need a mention and linking to and from the artical on RAF Keevil http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Keevil where final assembly and flight tests were done —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.8.50.18 (talk) 20:45, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notable people section[edit]

The notable people section was in a mess with a lot of unsourced entries presented in list format. Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about settlements recommends that list format is not used as the best (featured / good) articles use prose. People should meet the guidelines for notability, there should be an explanation of the person's connection with the settlement and the entry should ideally be referenced. I have put the list below. If anyone is interested, take a look at what is left in the section and add these entries in if they can be suitably expanded and verified. --Simple Bob a.k.a. The West Country Challenge[edit]

Would you like to win up to £250 in Amazon vouchers for participating in The West Country Challenge?

The The West Country Challenge will take place from 8 to 28 August 2016. The idea is to create and improve articles about Bristol, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, like this one.

The format will be based on Wales's successful Awaken the Dragon which saw over 1000 article improvements and creations and 65 GAs/FAs. As with the Dragon contest, the focus is more on improving core articles and breathing new life into those older stale articles and stubs which might otherwise not get edited in years. All contributions, including new articles, are welcome though.

Work on any of the items at:

or other articles relating to the area.

There will be sub contests focusing on particular areas:

Distance from Bath[edit]

Trowbridge is approximately 13 miles from Bath not 8 miles 2A01:4C8:A2:5873:1:2:457B:C248 (talk) 16:22, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

8 miles is correct since we use "as the crow flies" distances. It's true that the car route via the Avon valley is longer. Wire723 (talk) 10:46, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
