Hello. Thanks for uploading Image:CorgiDB5.JPG. However, you need to add source and copyright information to its image description page, or it may be deleted. Saying who created the image and adding an image copyright tag usually suffices. Bear in mind that, to be used in Wikipedia, an image must be in the public domain, be available under a free licence such as the GFDL, or must qualify for fair use. Kitkat picture[edit]

Hi, Electricmoose. I noticed you uploaded Electricmoose's cat Kitkat (2005).jpg with a fair use tag. Unfortunately, fair use images are legally problematic for Wikipedia, so they tend to be discouraged when a copyleft alternative is possible. Would you mind licensing your picture under a license such as the GFDL? You would retain copyright to the image, but would grant others the right to modify and redistribute your picture under the same terms. Thanks! Twinxor 20:57, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Regarding your response, the fair use tag is really for images you don't have copyright to. The argument is something like "I don't have permission to use this image, but it's OK to, because it doesn't hurt the owner at all." Since this doesn't apply when you made the image, it's a good idea to license pictures which you took under GFDL, Creative Commons, or the like. --Twinxor 22:03, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Image:Staghill.jpg[edit]

Hi Electricmoose,

I've listed Image:Staghill.jpg as a copyright violation at Wikipedia:Copyright_problems#June_2, for its use of the clouds from Image:Sunset.jpg without attribution. I dare say there are problems with the other elements of the picture, but I haven't tried to trace these.

In a similar vein, I've closed the FPC nomination early - largely for the copyvio problem but also because of concerns over the pattern of voting on this nomination. I appreciate that this image was probably intended as a hoax, so I'm sorry to pour cold water on it, but I guess it has had its day in the sun. -- Solipsist 06:40, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I don't really see there was any need to delete the image, but for future ref, please enter the web address of the source from which you took the image. I was never disputing the fair use of the image, only that it was unsourced. All that needed enteriung was the source of the image, in this case the Alex Rider website. User:Electricmoose/My Pictures[edit]

You have uploaded a bunch of images in that gallery that asserts fair use, but doesn't qualify a rationale, or its source, only saying that you took it off a website. Can you fix these problems, please? These includes things like Image:Bike.JPG, Image:Electromagnet.JPG, Image:CorgiDB5.JPG and other such stuff. Fair use and userspace[edit]

Hi, I notice you have a number of fair use images at User:Electricmoose/My Pictures (35 acording to this report). Acording to Wikipedia policy we are now allowed to have fair use images in userspace (see Wikipedia:Fair use#Fair use policy (point #9)), so I have to ask you to please remove these as soon as possible (you can link to the images instead, add a colon (:) at the start of the image link in order to make a regular link instead of displaying the image). Spider image[edit]

What is the spider in this image http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Spidereatfly.jpg I found one just like this crawling on my elbow in bed tonight, I have it in a container, it is dark brown relatively small and has the two dimples just as in your image. It looks very much like a female black widow, but is brown, has no markings, and is smaller than most black widow spiders I've seen,

Do you know what kind of spider this is?

If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
