Deleted this smurf as it isn't one. If someone wants to talk about smurf critisms they can do it in the smurf article (irrelvant to a list of characters). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.67.49.44 (talkcontribs)

Ok, someone wants to keep it. I have still changed it so feminism doesn't look like its own smurf. And made something slightly less point of view. Still think it needs deleting. 129.67.49.44 00:04, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is the original title "Dark"? They seem black smurfs to me. The translation could have been changed to avoid racism issues.

-I do not know. I didn't see any of the albums translated in English, only know their original French titles and tried to give the best translation possible. In the first album, the smurfs were indeed literally black, but it is true that it would sound racist if translated in this word.

The title of the first Smurf album is "Les Schtroumpfs Noirs", the black Smurfs. For the American market, this was (perhaps understandably) intolerable, so the comic was never released in English AFAIK, and in the cartoon, the black smurfs were replaced by purple smurfs. No purple Smurfs were ever released in the Schleich PVC figurines series, only black Smurfs. Fram 13:26, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think the Black Smurfs should be added, with Fram's note (once verified). There's no reason to be incomplete because they were omitted from just one language market. (The use of the colour black is a reference to that color's connotation to "evil", not race.)213.112.249.111 21:53, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, they clearly are pitch black. They're not a different race, though, they're rather like a normal smurf that's been bitten by a dangerous fly and turned vampire-like, contaminating others by biting them. 惑乱 分からん 22:41, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Other characters[edit]

How come no mention of non-Smurf characters? At least the human characters from Magic Flute should be mentioned, or else the title of the article should be changed. Also what about Gargamel? It would also be nice to have a paragraph at the top of this article explaining whether comic or cartoon or both sets of characters are being included.

On an unrelated note, does anyone know whether there is any connection between Gargamel and Gargamelle from Gargantua and Pantagruel? --128.218.19.195 02:41, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

- Absolutely no relation. Gargamel and Gargamelle were names in the middle-age... Gargamel is simply the male version of the Gargamelle name.

Gargamel needs his own page!

MISSING SMURF: Why is Passive-Agressive Smurf not listed among the new Smurfs from the 2011 movie? Smurfette mentioned him as being the only Smurf she did not miss while she was in NYC. I don't know if viewers ever see Passive-Aggressive Smurf, but he should be counted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.78.163.38 (talk) 17:55, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lazy smurf should have the hypersomnia disorder under his info page. He fits it perfectly: he is excessively sleeply day and night and is always tired. It looks like no matter how hard he tries, he never has the energy to do anything. He says in one episode that the only time he gets up from his daily nap is when it's time to go to bed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.6.67.239 (talk) 04:08, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mama?[edit]

In the list of characters, there is a Mama. I know of Granny (or Nanny) Smurf, but where does Mama appear? Or is it a version of Mother Nature, which is a recurring Non-Smurf character? Fram 13:30, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

the Howlibird is missing![edit]

The Howlibird (or 'Cracoucass' in the original language) is one of the characters that impressed me the most, and it is a shame it's not in the list.213.112.249.111 21:56, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Brawny Smurf?[edit]

I could have sworn there was a smurf named "Brawny Smurf". I don't see him on this page so I could be mistaken, but I seem to remember him being the smurf with a tattoo on his arm.

The one with the tattoo is Hefty. Fram 19:43, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am also chiming in to say I am sure the smurch was named Brawny smurf. Also, I remember the smurfs all having alliterative names. Re-sorted the old content[edit]

I thought the smurfs deserve a much more suitable page.. thats why I re-edited the old content to look more like this page. hope you all like it.. there is still much yet to be edited. help from smurf fans would be gladly appriciated. Acidburn24m 20:00, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem to edit the articles, but please don't put them back together, the subpage in your userpage is 67Kb long (just like the old page), which is too long. Could you split your page along the lines the two character pages are split now (Major / Minor) to keep the size in check? Thanks! Fram 20:09, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion the page should not be dealt into minor and major characters becuase that would always be disputed due to the fact that some were major in the cartoon and minor in the comics and wise versa. If you really would like to split the article I would recommend splitting it to smurfs charecters (comics) and Smurfs charecters (cartoon). I think the article sould stay as I edited with only minimizing the text for each charecter. I used to help on the construction of this page, and even though it seems just as big it was approved. Acidburn24m 20:19, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with cartoon vs. comic is of course that the majority of the characters appeared in both. Fram 20:23, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please explain to me , why the Transformers can have their own full characteres list and the Smurfs can't? it is the same length.. would you approve it if I wrote a shorter bio on each charecter? Acidburn24m 20:49, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If it would be up to me, the Transformers page would have to be either much shorter (about half the length) or split into two or three as well. Long pages are discouraged, for a number of reasons. Shortening the bios of the Smurfs is of course a good solution as well, some of the info is not very interesting anyway. 07:20, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
I cleaned it up today and minimized the text as much as I could. Acidburn24m 17:45, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help is needed in completeing the list[edit]

According to the french wikipedia there are supposed to be about 105 smurfs. any Smurfs fans are welcomed to help complete the list Acidburn24m 17:57, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry i dont know any more smurfs but:

its been a long time but i do remember in one episode gargamels mother trying to marry him off, the smurfs rescue the girl from her fate, i believe gargemel called his mother "mama".

also where is the girl with no voice. she appears in one of my favourite episodes, one that has spawned the unofficial "OK" sign in our scuba school(i hope Padi doesnt notice). i dont remember her name, it must be 6-7 years since i last saw any of this.

Non-smurf characters[edit]

Some recurring characters not listed at all are The Great Book of Spells and Gargamel's Mummy. Also, the unnamed King (Johann and Peewit's king) does not have his own entry.Njsustain (talk) 05:15, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hogatha[edit]

I think there needs to be more explanation about Hogatha. In the first episode she is pretty much killed by Smurfette, but returns in a later episode as "Snorty Smurf" whose spell malfunctions because Snorty was missing his tail. At the end of the episode The Fake Smurf, she is transformed back to herself, but is still the same size of the rest of the Smurfs. They get a rope out and almost act like they are about hang her, but instead they tie it to two trees to form a "Do Not Cross" line and exiled her. She then says "I'll be back. I have plenty of lives left." So there should be a sentence describing her clumsy spells and also the fact that she uses magic to extend her mortality, which reverses the spells and even death. ...because I am unfamiliar with this character. I did not know about her until recently after watching her debut episode and was shocked by her apparent death that I had to do find out if she appeared in any later episodes. In-Correct (talk) 23:42, 27 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Theo[edit]

I don't think Prince Theodore is on this list; the one that was turned into a frog. He appeared in multiple episodes so shouldn't he be under the other characters. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.92.168.66 (talk) 23:31, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Michael the Leprechaun[edit]

I don't know if Michael only appeared in the cartoon or if appeared in the comics to. But I know he made an appearance in at least two episodes of the cartoon and I want to say there were three. One he was something of a friend to the Smurfs and helped them with the yellow in a rainbow when they volunteered to help an overly busy Mother Nature on Rainbow Day. The second he was more of a cameo appearance in an episode focusing on a pegasus pony that Smurfette befriended but he did tell the pony about sliding down rainbows. I want to say there was a third that introduced him to the Smurfs but I can't remember for certain on that one. -anonymous 2/29/2012 4:20 AM EST. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.64.5.105 (talk) 09:21, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Vexy and Hackus[edit]

The description for Vexy looks like it was copy-pasted from somewhere else, and really makes no sense given Hackus's description. I have seen both movies, and Vexy is definitely a female Smurf. --Shawn K. Quinn (talk) 07:20, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Princess Savina / Sabina / Salvina?[edit]

I've been following this page since 2006 and no one seems to know what the name of the king's daughter is (the one who is always followed around by Dame Barbara). I always thought it was Princess Sabina. But I've seen it as Salvina and on the page it is now Savina. Does anyone know for sure? Does she appear in the comics at all in the Johann and Pirlouit series? We really need to stop changing it without being sure. Mole2 (talk) 10:23, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism?[edit]

This list is incomplete, contains errors, and appears to have been vandalized. - Stinky (46) is identical to Sloppy (14), at least according to the fan site https://smurfs.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_Smurf_characters . - There is no "Doctor Who" Smurf, it should be "Doctor Smurf". - Savina is mis-spelled as "Sabina", though I can only cite a fan wiki as reference ( https://smurfs.fandom.com/wiki/Princess_Savina ). - Also the list seems quite incomplete. - The mobile game fan site which the above user linked to is dead. 85.237.7.84 (talk) 15:12, 23 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
