Split[edit]

Obviously this article is way too long. I just trimmed out tons of fancruft, but I feel like the media list could be all right if formated properly, sourced completely and split into its own article. Opinions?--IDVtalk 03:15, 29 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@IDV: I'm cleaning up merge/split proposals tags and discussions. Are you still interested in splitting this article? As nobody seems to have a opposed this idea since it was proposed like 9 months ago, feel free to go ahead with it. --The1337gamer (talk) 12:15, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@The1337gamer: Right, I had completely forgotten about this article. I do think that the media section should be split into its own article, but to be completely honest, there's too much work involved in digging up sources etc for something I'm not particularly interested in. Sorry.--IDVtalk 12:27, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@IDV: Ok. Well I'll remove the split proposal tag from the article for now as this discussion has been inactive. If you feel the urge to split it in the future, then just go ahead with it. --The1337gamer (talk) 12:30, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

InfoBox: Classic vs 2015 Video Game[edit]

I am confused by the infobox which lists the latest release as "King's Quest: Once Upon A Climb April 26, 2016". This is Episode 3 of King's Quest (2015 video game), which has its own article, not the classic game being documented here. The list of episodes also includes the 2015 Video Game. Should the 2015-6 game be considered part of this family & article? It has its own article, and I have added xref hatnotes to each article. Looks like a mistake to me. D Anthony Patriarche (talk) 17:54, 6 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@D Anthony Patriarche: This is the series/family article. The original game is at King's Quest I. -- ferret (talk) 18:42, 6 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

cancelled games[edit]

This section has a number of inaccuracies... The first is section about Davidson's and Associates...

It sources claims that Davidson changed KQ8 to be less violent, because of 'conservative values'.... This is not what is said in the book.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0307463559?pf_rd_r=K1SQ0CRGZ18P78WB9PVM&pf_rd_p=5ae2c7f8-e0c6-4f35-9071-dc3240e894a8&pd_rd_r=61a989dc-2b12-45ec-b8c9-1d938ac11c6b&pd_rd_w=reOkb&pd_rd_wg=B6pYn&ref_=pd_gw_unk

The correct updated info is found in this interview from Roberta Herself... Where she talks about how the Davidson's second team were trying to force the game to be an MMORPG, she didn't mind the idea of Massively Mutiplayer Online Adventure game but was not fond of the RPG elements, and didn't think the time was right ot make the King's Quest Online game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi3QJpskkXA

The next bit is the information on Williams discussing King's Quest online multi-player game (which expands on the above info)... It comes from the Sierra's own official InterAction magazine this issue specifically. But someone kept vandaling the addition of the information and removing the the information and the citations...

https://archive.org/details/018_interaction_volume_6_number_2_summer_1993

The next information comes from Ken and Roberta Williams themselves which be found here:

https://kingsquest.fandom.com/wiki/King%27s_Quest_(9)_(Roberta_Williams)

The next part comes from an email from Ken Williams on the backstory of her game...

The full email was published on Facebook and originates around the time he was advertising his book:

You are authorized to publish it (non-exclusively) .. it's really only a paragraph .. but I think you'll agree it is a very cool paragraph ...

An email I received from Roberta:

Here’s the next King’s Quest (9) overall story:
King Graham, now elderly, was very grateful to the local knight, Connor, for saving the Kingdom of Daventry from the evil Archarchon, Lucreto, and restoring the Mask of Eternity to its salubrious, protective powers. So grateful, in fact, that he had given Connor the title of Marquis of Daventry, with the responsibility of securing the kingdom’s borders from any outside attacks or evil intentions. In the interim, a charismatic ‘healer,’ Rasputris, had wandered into Daventry and had imbedded himself into the household of the elderly king and queen by ‘curing’ them of their stiff aches and pains -- most related to the aftereffects of having been turned to stone in King’s Quest 8. Rasputris has made himself so important in the Daventry court that his powerful influence is now corrupting Daventry -- from the inside! Rosella has become very concerned about her parents and their sudden dependence on this itinerant drifter and she tries to evict him from the kingdom, but to no avail. It’s obvious that they are both heavily influenced by Rasputris and, indeed, are overwhelmed by him. What has he done to them? Rosella then enlists the aid of her brother, Alexander – now the King of the Land of the Green Isles – and Connor, the new Marquis of Daventry, to help ‘rescue’ King Graham and Queen Valanice from Rasputris’s evil clutches. But during their endeavors, they find that Rasputris is more than he seems – a dirty, unkempt wanderer with bright, hypnotic eyes. In reality he was an accomplice of Lucreto. Unfortunately, he had been accidentally blasted out of the Realm of the Sun when the Mask of Eternity was restored and is now in the process of taking over Daventry ‘from the inside’ in retaliation for Connor having defeated Lucreto and his evil plans. It will not be an easy task to root this powerful character out from Daventry!
And – you never know – maybe an affection will develop between Rosella and Connor? And poor Edgar? Hmmm….a struggle could commence between Edgar and Connor (but not in this game. In King’s Quest 10)!
I think that Jane Jensen – if she would do it – but be the perfect designer for King’s Quest 9!

I suspect readers of the wiki will enjoy reading that ...

Finally the last material is here...

https://kingsquest.fandom.com/wiki/King%27s_Quest:_Twins_of_Change

It concerns developmental material for King's Quest: Twins of Change, and information provided by Cindy Vanous about her game, and its background.

You are not including sources in your edits, and the sources you provide here are not reliable. Do you have anything that qualifies as reliable sources? (See WP:V and WP:RS). We don't use user-generated sites such as fan wikis as sources, we don't use personal emails, and YouTube videos are often not acceptable. Your reference to the book is nothing but the Amazon page showing the book for sale. What does the book actually say, and on what page?
Furthermore, the fact that you are in personal communication with these people raises the question of whether you have a conflict of interest. Please read WP:COI. Meters (talk) 21:14, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Its page 157, This is all it says about KQ8...
"""Roberta tried to hold back her feelings, but she felt sick inside. At times she was livid; she no longer had true control over her work in particular the next installment of the King's Quest series. As Roberta worked on her script and puzzle ideas, another team worked on on theirs. When it came down to it, she felt like she wasn't being listened to..."BagginsKQ (talk) 21:45, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also not sure how a Sierra magazine article which I did icnlude the citaiton and page number doesn't account as a 'valid source', those magazines are cited all over the Sierra related pages... Plus I'm not sure how you mean that a live interview with Roberta and Ken Williams themselves doesn't count either? It is their own words...BagginsKQ (talk) 21:47, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

NO where in the book does it talk about the 'team removing combat, violence, etc' from the game... Roberta's interview says the exact opposite actually... It seems like biased interpretation (inaccurate paraphrasingh/out of context).. Did you put that information there? Why are you defending such blatantly false informationBagginsKQ (talk) 21:54, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No, I have never edited this article other than to undo your edits. You would have known that had you bothered to look at the article's history, so please keep your accusations or innuendo to yourself.
There appear to be problems with this article, but your changes were not properly sourced, so I undid them. The solution for improperly sourced claims is not to replace them with other improperly sourced information, and from an editor with a possible COI at that. If you have reliable, published secondary sources for your changes let's see them, otherwise I suggest that we just remove all of the material on the infighting. Personal interviews are not good sources for what was going on. They are the interviewee's personal opinions or interpretations of what what was going on. Not the same thing.
And again, please explain your apparent conflict of interest in that you are in personal communication with them. Meters (talk) 22:09, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You think I have or did work for Sierra? I don't.... Facebook, is just public forum. People post info there all the time. It's just discussion with non-related public figures and other people. Sometimes they post concept material and information about the stuff they worked on. I'll see if I can find someone who has posted that information outside of facebook posts... It doesn't mean the information is 'untruthful' that they post.BagginsKQ (talk) 22:14, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please indent your talk page posts properly. See WP:TALKREPLY.
I didn't ask if you worked for Sierra. Conflict of interest covers much more than working relationships. I asked you to explain your apparent COI since you appear to be in personal communication with some of these people. If it's just Facebook posts that's not an issue at all.
I didn't say anything about the truthfulness of facebook posts. Some facebook posts are accurate, and some are not. Some may be mistaken, some may be biased, and some may be intentionally misleading. That's not really the issue. Most of them are simply not acceptable as reliable sources. If we have a post by someone with a confirmed identity (a big if) about all we can say is that they stated such and such in that post. That's not the same as saying that such and such is correct or actually happened. Meters (talk) 22:35, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
