Gleek (Spitting)[edit]

Gleek (Spitting) was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was transwiki to wiktionary. Is this term much used? Peter O. (Talk) 04:45, Nov 30, 2004 (UTC)

• Comment: I've never heard the term. The Olympian (Olympian, WA) has an article about it [1]. DCEdwards1966 05:06, Nov 30, 2004 (UTC)
• Comment: FWIW, It's a slang term that US highschool students use and has been in use for decades. —RaD Man (talk) 06:23, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)
• Transwiki to wiktionary. It's a dicdef --Tony Sidaway Talk 07:20, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)
• Transwiki this to Wikitionary. --Randy 12:03, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)
• I've heard the term since high school, and have been trying to get it to work since about then (trumpet playing totally screws up the tongue). If perhaps instructions could be added, it might be worth an article, but for now it should be transwikid to the Wikitionary. Inky 19:54, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)
• Transwiki to wiktionary. I've heard the term in both Michigan and Washington public schools, so it seems to be widespread enough for inclusion. --Carnildo 00:45, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)
• Delete. Only 345 hits for gleek spit, 1800 for gleeking. Never heard it at my US high school (Class of '80). Don't clog wiktionary's months old back-log with it--according to m-w.com gleek is an old word meaning joke or gibe. Niteowlneils 02:51, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)
• delete though I assure you it is a word, I heard it in high school in the 70's in Los Angeles and from a high school girl from Tennessee in the 90's but I would still call it slang, not encyclopedic and not worthy of inclusion in a dictionary, unless it's a dictionary of school words from North America. Let's not spread this disgusting practice around the world. If you've ever been gleeked upon, you would instantly agree. Pedant 01:43, 2004 Dec 5 (UTC)
• I can think of a million things you may not like, but we're not going to strike them from the English language! A little pretentious, don't you think? Oh, and transwiki. —RaD Man (talk) 11:31, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)
• Transwiki. It would be kind of a bad idea to delete all words that describe actions we don't like. However, that does not belong here. --L33tminion | (talk) 07:47, Dec 5, 2004 (UTC)
