Template error[edit]

Good idea, but all of the entries from Cairo onwards display as

"Template:Non-featured CotW article"

rather than expanding out the template as

"Improve this previous CotW article to featured-standard so that it can be nominated and featured."

Is this a known template bug/feature? -- ALoan (Talk) 21:54, 1 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Yes. The MediaWiki software doesn't let you include the same template on a page more than 5 times. This prevents crapfloods: a malicious user could create a 1000 kilobyte-long template full of nonsense, then include that template about 1000 times on some other page.
This isn't a problem for our purposes, other than looking a little bit off. The rest of the to-do list will appear just fine, after the Template:Non-featured CotW article. :-)
If anyone is really annoyed by it, they can simply change {{Non-featured CotW article}} to {{subst:Non-featured CotW article}}, which will solve this problem. (If we do that, though, every to-do list will have to be manually updated if we want to change the boilerplate item. OTOH, it's no biggie. I probably went a little overboard with my use of templates.) • Benc • 23:19, 1 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Come to think of it, it annoys me. :-P Fixed, once and for all. • Benc • 23:32, 1 Sep 2004 (UTC)
