A Serious Question[edit]

Greetings! I <3 your work. I'm Julia and I am a peace activist. I would like to know if you would like to go on a date with me. I'm 25 (yay...). I think you know my email address (if you don't, I will give it to you) wiki.omega@yahoo.com, and apparently we are facebook friends (huh? yep, doesn't make sense to me either). If you are too busy, I understand, but I think it might be interesting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.14.147.106 (talk) 19:35, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

External Links[edit]

Trawled many pages of search results for the most relevant and distinctive pages I could find. A mixture of interviews, articles and wiki. Eventually separated the wiki pages into a separate shorter list. Excluded articles from competing wiki sites as most seemed amateurish and biased. Excluded articles alleging criminal behaviour on the part of Jimmy Wales because they did not provide any evidence. The only exception was a very balanced piece which I deemed informative enough to warrant addition. Wildwikiwookie (talk) 06:56, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage[edit]

I might have borrowed your userpage and used the template outline for my own userpage. I assume that since Wikipedia licenses its content through a GNU Free Documentation License, this is okay. If it is not okay, or you would like me to remove it, I would be happy to do so. Thanks and thanks for creating Wikipedia!

Population Records[edit]

Population Records: Many population records are incorrect for given area's as the Census Takers did not include many minorities in the USA.

For example I discovered upon a 30+ project that the Native Americans were documented from the Lewis and Clark Expeditions. Additionally the Native Americans that were residing in the USA at the time the Pioneers arrived were over 4 million people or maybe that was when Lewis and Clark did the expedition and than Powell did his expedition. In any event after being moved so many times while in the US when the US finally did include the Natives they were called "Blacks," there was not an allowance for any other thing in the Cenus Records at that time except Black or White and if you had a tan you were "Black,". Finally since the Natives were not moved off the original 13 colonies West Ward and the reason was the Pioneers wanted that land in the East for their own as there populations were growing so that was in 1838 only 22 years before the Civil War which abolished slavery it is impossible to say the USA ever had the number of slaves once indicated so it is suspected since the North did not have slaves and the West was inhabitted by Natives that the slaves one keeps referring to are actually the Natives who were on there own lands and some were very dark but not African American there were many photo's taken on the expeditions to show what the Natives looked like and there are distinct differences. I think further investigations should be done as it is a World known fact that when Hitler was in Power he wanted to change History and often had "book burning parties," after the War started so can you imagine the damages that may have been done before the War started.

Our past president once said we need more scientists, do you think maybe he began to realize some factual information had great contradictions in them? Thank you. Sharon Lynette —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.3.13.129 (talk) 12:49, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Admit it, you like society[edit]

Apparently, you like the social networking in Wikipedia, why not make Wikipedia a social networking encyclopedia site? Like that, people can edit the encyclopedia, while they also socialize and befriend other users. IMO, less bad faith edits will occur when the people know Wikipedia is also letting them interact freely with each other, and also more users will register. Plus, the internet traffic will be through the roof and believe me, if u implement actual adds, you'd make a killer revenue which could be utilized for the non-profit charity of Wikipedia. Feedback 22:29, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think adds is the way to go , I filter all my adds.(Off2riorob (talk) 18:37, 1 April 2009 (UTC))[reply]
I disagree and agree. I think Wikipedia would be nice as a social-networking site/web encyclopedia, but I don't believe ads should be on Wikipedia, let alone anywhere! Goldblattster (talk) 01:31, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, ads are what make the world go round, if donations aren't cutting it. Take youtube for example. Youtube is a site that is massively useful to the day to day user, and they are able to do that due to ads. Only a minority of internet users filter their ads, and if they choose to do so, by all means, go ahead, but if an organization that provides a free service to the internet chooses to place ads, so be it, you must deal with it, and be glad that the site is there, and free for you to use! Yahoo Briefcase[edit]

Your profile talks about working on a search engine that I just learned has been
shut? and any help you can offer 'property' owners trying to find out if yahoo has just
flushed stuff down the toilet or as it seems is just playing a sick game not saying to
see if anyone can pierce there defense or not.

It also seems you have not updated your description of what you created given how routine "delete's" seem to be from the remarks.

But then I have not spent the kinda time everyone else has on here. I've attended talks about your product though by your most serious foes. Didn't believe them till now!

Obviously this is about the only info about us being in history pages not in current pages for no reason other then people at best reflexively protecting Y! I do judge this special enough for such an act as this post weighing tons of facts related to context, details, you, me, the mere 29 who signed Joe's petition in Y! answers, the utter madness of the core fact: we tell time in hours, even seconds, a day is a long time, and after it is not during it! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.196.20.152 (talk) 02:59, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Du" or "Sie"[edit]

Hello Jimbo, hello Björn_Bornhöft, hello all interested german-speaking folks.

In August 2008 Marcopolo translated your Userpage into German. He used "Sie" as form of address. I changed the part "You may edit this" and replaced "sie" by "du". My reasons:

  • "du" is common language in the german wikipedia. (see Warum sich hier alle duzen)
  • see any help page of the german wikipedia. Everybodys using "du".

Björn, you deleted my edit with the reason: "You can live out your ideas on your own Userpage" How do you know, your ideas are the correct ones? How do you know Marcopolos translation got the correct idea? What do you understand by "You may edit this" when telling me "You can live out your ideas on your own Userpage". Please help me understand what is wrong about saying "du"? Jimbo I would apprciate a statement by you what you prefer.

IDEA FOR CREATING A NEW PROJECT NAMED WIKI STORIES[edit]

Hi, I use Wikipedia a lot and i like the site very much. My idea, which I am giving as a kind of contribution; is to create a wiki project in which different people can tell a same story; all made up and original; each user could add an original paragraph and be modified by a second paragraph version or a complete new one, users could be able to vote which paragraph would stay and will be used for the story line. Once story is finished, edited, with its own images and stuff, it could be published as a formal book; may be, at last, it could be sold as a formal book for getting some kind of income to the Wikimedia foundation, of course, giving on it a proper acknowledgment to the users which participated.

For any comments you can email me to this address: ywkywkywkywk@gmail.com

You guys do a great job and help lots of people, keep going this way and Good luck!:) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.202.23.32 (talk) 09:03, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

to Jimmy[edit]

Hy,

Please excuse by advance an english wich is not so controlled. I use the wikipedia all days since a fews years now, it's a part of my own customs and one of the more addictive, but this message is my first contribution.

For enter in the subject directly, i don't find than an encyclopedia must have an economical model. This is not objective and it is a "native" reference of Diderot. The analogy is hard to write, but both occur during a revolution... our is numeric i guess.

It can be quickly capitalized in just being an gigantic economy for all states of the world; wikipedia is allready a trouble maker in many aged educationnal systems for the smiling part of the situation. The project in ten years seem to have overtaken the state of the brilliant idea, but camp on a "start" model over consolidate it.

The contribution exceed widely the problem of the voluntary work if the degree of public utility of the project is analyzed objectivly . This last don't truly need of a long lasting of an old model of ten years, but more take responsabilities in a new step and engage the core of the contributors of tommorrow : the teachers and university themselves.

The hybrid form is a natural equilibrum wich don't need to preach evidences. The numbers and repartition of contributors are "damages" and not "casualities" for me.

I'm not reducing the efforts allready maded, but point on a politic i don't understand or than i don't find logic. This website is now intellectually vital for me, and i consider it as the better answer to the last century with a hint of philosophy.

Outside this reaction, i thank you.

Complaint on user:DIREKTOR again[edit]

Sorry, Jimbo, if I pinpoint again about what is happening with user:DIREKTOR. He seems to be allowed to do any wrongdoings he wants on en.wiki (edit wars, vandalisms, verbal offenses, 3RR, political propaganda, etc..). He has collected six bans, but keeps behaving defiantly thanks even to his meatpuppets (like user:AlasdairGreen27). Please, read [2] in order to get an idea. Even with user:FkpCascais he gets whatever he likes (see [3]), but is not punished because some admins seems to be often on his side. Many others wikipedians have experienced his "attacks": recently an admin on it.wiki (user:Crisarco) remained astonished by his behaviour (and for the group "supporting" him) on en.wiki. Please see" [4]. He does -in a continue way- political propaganda (with his meatpuppet user:AlasdairGreen27 and others) supporting communist Tito and Yugoslavian topics.....and no admin on en.wiki seriously takes care of his many wrongdoings (may be they are afraid of him and his group?). The last admin who "dared" to ban him for a few days was literally "assaulted" by his group and was forced to offer a kind of withdrawal of the ban: unbelievable! A lot of people are tired of him and his continuous fights and edit wars: he should be banned forever or for a long period of months. Many wikipedians would appreciate your help to get this: Wikipedia needs to grow in a "peaceful" relationship between users; and this Direktor is always fighting with someone (just look at his talkpage and contributions). Sincerely --BisR41 (talk) 19:07, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies, this is yet another "report" from a gang of banned sockpuppeteers I reported (most likely User:Ragusino). The account is a very obvious sock, created today [5] for the sole purpose of bringing about my "FOREVER ban" :). The sock posted it here because he knows he'd probably get blocked immediately if he draws too much attention on WP:ANI. This kind of sock-attacks happen a lot, since I reported a large number of sockpuppeteers. Again, sorry for the disturbance. I recommend an immediate block - it does not get much more obvious than this. --DIREKTOR (TALK) 20:02, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, well....I wrote the complainst in order to show Jimbo how quickly some admins "help" this fanatic Direktor (6 times banned! not a little saint...). His meatpuppet group literally attacks even admins (like User:JodyB) who "dare" to punish him! Allow me to repeat: Wikipedia needs to grow in a "peaceful" relationship between users; and this Direktor is always fighting with someone (just look at his talkpage and contributions). He should be banned at least for some months! Sincerely. --TrisR41 (talk) 16:40, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your personal appeal[edit]

That said, I hope WP will nevertheless (in spite of your oppressing appeal ;-P) get sufficient funding to continue its valuable mission... — MFH:Talk 12:01, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question on the Personal Appeal[edit]

Hello Jimmy,

Why did you put across the donation drive as if it is your personal appeal? I might be mistaken, but your ego is coming forth in the picture than your appeal or any encouragement to participate in this brilliant venture called 'Wikipedia'.

I am reminded of a Linus Torvalds quote.

What Linux myths or misconceptions do you find particularly galling?.
   Torvalds responds.
I don’t get upset that easily, so I can’t say that there is any in
particular that I find galling. One myth that I find interesting, but
which has nothing to do with Linux or even the IT sector in
particular, is the myth of how a single person or even a single
company makes a hnce in the market. It’s the belief that
things happen because somebody was visionary and “planned” it that
way. Sometimes the people themselves seem to believe it, and then the
   myth becomes hubris.
I have to continually try to explain to people that no, I don’t
“control” what happens in Linux. It’s about having an environment that
is conducive to development, not so much about any particular leader.
And I think that is true in most cases, be it the “great sport coach”
   or the “great spiritual leader.”

Chinese and English Wikipedia has quite diffrent content in same items.[edit]

Dear Mr.Wales:

I am a normal Chinese student, Wikipedia let me know a lot of
universal knowledges. But recently, I find that some of wikipedia items
can't let us the truth, some of the items can't let us the
mainly thing of the item, it is only said something that can
misleading our focus. For example, 尼古拉·齐奥塞斯库
and Nicolae Ceauşescu have quite different content. In Chinse
item, has a lot of Ceauşescu's speeches, it don't mainly said
the bad about the dictatorship, what it mainly talks is the
good part of Ceauşescu, but it is not the mainly party of that person.
When the item of Chinese were read by a child, he/she probably recognize
that the dictator and dictatorship is good. I don't think the Chinese
version of the item was edited by the right person. I know that China Communist Party hired a lot of network information
administrator around the world. I think that wikipedia
should ensure that all the administrators of wiki cann't
accepted money by any dictator or totalitarian organization.
