Ateme S.A. is a global leader of video compression and delivery solutions[1], helping content providers, service providers (MVPDs) and streaming platforms boost their viewers’ engagement and reduce churn.[2]

Their expertise lies in developing software for video compression based on H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, AV1, and H. 266/VVC (Versatile Video Coding) standards[3][4], as well as MPEG4; MPEG2 encoding / decoding software for contribution links[5]. They also provide solutions for multi-screen live streaming, OTT content delivery and CDN software[6]. Additionally, Ateme offers origin-server and packaging software; and cloud DVR technology.

The company has its headquarters in Vélizy near Paris, France,[7] with offices that spread over Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Australia. The company also has a worldwide resellers network and operates globally with clients in more than 60 countries.[8]

The company is a member of broadcasting associations such as DVB, SMPTE, NAB, SVG, VIDTRANS, iabm, ABU, WTA, SSPI. Ateme has exhibited at global trade shows such as the IBC[9] and NAB Show.[10]

Products[edit]

  • TITAN: Software suite for origination, acquisition and compression.
  • KYRION: High-quality/ultra-low-latency encoding/decoding appliance.
  • NEA: Software suite for origin, packaging, storage, analytics and CDN.
  • PILOT: Software suite for management, operations and deployment.
  • Ateme +: Cloud-based SaaS video compression, processing.[11]

Ateme portfolio runs on a Kubernetes cluster on-premises or off-premises using for example AWS, Azure or GCP.

Innovations[edit]

  • SSAI (Server-side Ad Insertion) : Company's Server Side Ad Insertion solution now supports the latest Apple HLS Intersitials spec for improved ad viewing experience.[12]
  • Encording for Spatial Computing: TITAN encoders, powered by Ateme's Gen 7 compression engine, enable new ways of consuming video assets on the Apple Vision Pro. Using the MV-HEVC standard, they enable delivery of stereoscopic 3D content for Spatial Computing.[13]

Customers[edit]

ATEME counts among its customers global broadcast and OTT companies, including EBU, Proximus, Telefonica, NBC Sports, Encompass, Globo, Sky, Orange, TV Azteca, RTL Group, TotalPlay, FOX Sports, AMC Networks, CRA, France Télévisions, FPT Telecom, Esporte Interativo and Globecast.[14]

Awards[edit]

  • 2023 Streaming Media Readers' Choice Awards[15]

Sustainability[edit]

Ateme is a founding member of Greening of Streaming[16]. They work to make online streaming more eco-friendly by introduction of new codecs and encoding with standards-compliant algorithms[17].

Their technologies reduce bandwidth and infrastructure needs for content providers, service providers, MVPDs and OTT.[18] This reduction in turn helps to play its part in reducing the environmental impact of video delivery on worldwide energy consumption.[19]

Technology companies can continue to play a big role in reducing the environmental impact of streaming, including through further efforts to increase energy efficiency – both in the near-term with new technologies and developing next-generation technologies – and investing in renewable energy to power their data centres and networks. Sustainable design and coding could also help, such as further improving video compression.
