stay in Moscow?[edit]

I checked on TEKA Moscu. hoopshype.com thinks it's TSKA Moscow [1], eurobasket says he was out with an injury for the entire 1987/88 season and there is one more website saying he never played in Moscow. It's probably the best to leave it out, as you did. Andris 19:47, May 25, 2004 (UTC)

I thought about it more and it's most likely that Sabonis never left Zalgiris for another team in Soviet Union. I'm from Latvia and I used to follow Zalgiris at that time. I would have probably heard if Sabonis had left for another team. Andris 20:12, May 25, 2004 (UTC)

Hi, I'm from Lithuania, I grew up watching Sabonis and Zalgiris victories in Soviet Union. CSKA (not TEKA or TSKA) Moscow is the sport club of soviet army (football, basketball and other sections). The best young basketball players should play there at least 2 years instead of defending the country in real army with real guns. Sabonis avoided that as he was officially studying in Kaunas Agroculture University (at that time students were released from going to army), so he never played in CSKA Moscow.

Gigantism[edit]

I was curious if anyone knows whether Arvydas had pituitary gigantism or acromegaly, a condition which makes people grow tall and large like Andre the Giant?

Doesn't have gigantism[edit]

Sabonis does not have acromegaly or gigantism. He is simply a very tall and big individual. There are other giant men from Lithuania such as Zydrunas Illgauskas, who is also 7 ft 3.

Actually, He was measured at 7 ft 3 1/4, WITH shoes on, back in April 1996. He is assumed to stand about 7'1.5" barefoot. Some 90% of NBA players are listed on the roster with their height IN shoes. Yet, they are allowed to be measured barefoot if they so choose. For example, Yao Ming is a legitimate 7'6 barefoor, and Georghe Muressan is a barefoot 7 ft 7.

He was listed at 220 cm (7 ft 2½ in) and 120 kg (265 lb) at the 1988 Summer Olympics. I've sometimes seen him credited as the tallest Olympic Champion, and at least there hasn't been anyone taller since, for that I'm sure. --Anshelm '77 00:11, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He does have a middle name, his full name is Arvydas Romas Sabonis.

Add his children?[edit]

I have no clue how to do it but he has 4 children including Damontas Sabonis and Tautvydas Sabonis, Damontas has a Wikipedia page but Tautvydas only has one in Spanish.
