This article displays an unfounded and focalised bias concerning the relationship between Thespiae and Thebes. The statements made are unsupported by even the most basic scholarly articles or the historical sources. Redbrigade82 (talk) 05:40, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article is based on a very limited number of modern sources, and the "bias" seems typical of the 1911 Britannica from which it no doubt was originally filched. It seems unlikely that this was a deliberate POV campaign by a pro-Theban faction of editors, so I think you'd be safe in editing it with these basic scholarly sources you have at hand. Mithridates[edit]

The mention of war with Mithridates says this occurred in the year 171. I don't know if this means AD or BC but in either case, the Mithridatic wars were all in the 1st century BC so this date must be inaccurate. I don't have access to the cited source to correct this, although looking at the page's history it appears that an earlier paragraph mentioning the year 171 was edited to include mention of Mithridates VI, so it may refer to a different event. 98.247.80.12 (talk) 16:32, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

When was Thespiae restored?[edit]

Just today I added the line "Not long after the battle Thespiae was razed by Thebes and its inhabitants expelled" along with a source. However, after that comes the already existing line "At some point later the city was restored". But is it possible to give a better estimate of the date, I wonder? During the research I've done myself, I've found this section of Demosthenes' speech For the Megalopolitans which reads "...the Thebans will be weakened by the refounding of Orchomenus, Thespiae and Plataea...". That speech was delivered in 352. From the wording I understand those cities are yet to be refounded, or have just been refounded. Does anyone else have more insight into this, or shall I mention this speech in the article as an indication that by 352 it might have been refounded or was about to be refounded?
