Categories[edit]

VMORO: The Category:Opera singers has been taxonomically grouped into people by voice type and also into Category:Opera singers by nationality. As such, the Boris Christoff article should go into the Category:Bulgarian opera singers, and should not remain in Category:Opera singers since this is a parent category of the Bulgarian opera singer category. The same goes for Category:Bulgarian people; Bulgarian opera singers is a subcategory of Bulgarian musicians, which is a subcategory of Bulgarian opera singers. This avoids redundency. Please see Wikipedia:Categorization if you have any addition questions. Thanks. --BaronLarf 16:15, Jan 20, 2005 (UTC)

Once again, there are no articles in the Category:Opera singers except for the ones that you are reverting there. They have all been subcategorized, as is encouraged in the Wikipedia:Categorization. I encourage you to visit the Opera singers category to take note of this. It's rather silly for Boris Christoff and Raina Kabaivanska to be the only exception. This isn't "hiding" the article, just giving it a greater degree of categorization. It has nothing to do with the size of Bulgaria.
For example, someone like Renée Fleming could be listed under Category:American singers, Category:American opera singers, Category:United States musicians, Category:Opera singers, Category:American people, etc. Instead, she is just listed under Category:American opera singers since this is a subcategory under everything else. It reduces redundancy and makes categories much easier to navigate through. Cheers. --BaronLarf 20:53, Jan 20, 2005 (UTC)

Met?[edit]

The article states, "He refused any further invitations to the Metropolitan and never appeared there." It also states, "While not of huge proportions, his voice had no trouble making an impact in big auditoria such as that of the Met." Did he, then, sing at the Met after all? If so, then the first statement needs revision. If not, perhaps some other auditorium would be a better choice in the second. Drhoehl (talk) 02:47, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Calendar[edit]

Bulgaria adopted the Gregorian calendar in April 1918, when Christoff was 3 years old. Is "18 May 1914" according to the old Julian calendar (which would make it 31 May Gregorian), or has it been converted from 5 May 1914 Julian to the Gregorian equivalent? -- JackofOz (talk) 09:50, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A major 4th?[edit]

"Herbert von Karajan tried to make him sing the title role in Don Giovanni which would have been at least a major fourth too high for him; this prompted him to sever relations with von Karajan.

Karajan "tried to make him sing" Giovanni? Ridiculous. Perhaps he was invited to sing the role, but quite a few basses have sung the role, including Pinza, Hines, Ghiaurov, Raimondi, Ramey, and Furlanetto. Ephraem 05:51, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

===============================================================[edit]

To the fellow who wrote that in the recording of Verdi's Requiem with Karajan Christoff's voice shows signs of aging:

Mate,

Do you have any idea what you are writing about?

Christoff "recorded" Verdi's Requiem with Karajan live in Salzburg in 1949 when he was 35 years old. He was absolutely in his prime at the time and his voice shows signs of everything but aging. Nor could such a claim be sustained about Boris' late recording with Serafin. As a matter of fact, his voice started showing noticeable signs of aging not earlier than the middle 1970s, after some three decades on stage. As every great artist, Boris Christoff managed to turn the negatives into positives, ever refining his interpretations more and more. But that's quite another story. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.76.248.65 (talk) 18:05, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Don Giovanni is a baritone. Boris Christoff was a bass. The tessetura of Boris Godunov is lower than Don Giovanni. Most basses who sing Boris Godunov usually sing the Commendatore in the opera DON GIOVANNI, not the title role. Talvela, Hines, people like that. Baritones like George London singing Boris are exceptions.207.237.243.185 (talk) 07:10, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
