[Untitled][edit]

I split this out from Prisons since that article is now getting long enough to be able to stand without the padding of a list. I trust that's acceptable to everyone? --Tagishsimon 21:51, 20 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Ontario Prisons[edit]

I brought over the list of functioning correctional facilities from the Correctional Facilities of Ontario, Canada, but stopped short of merging the list completely. The separate entry for Ontario facilities also lists decommissioned and historical facilities in Ontario with links to specific pages for some. The separate list also provides a description explaining for provincial facilities differ from federal.--Jeff Johnston 20:56, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The following is from Talk:List of notable prisons:

How are these prisons being selected for notability? Kappa 22:14, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I split them out from a list of prisons in prison, mainly because they were taking up too much space. So in actual reality, I've no idea. There wasn't really a standard, did you want to try to hash one out? To start with, we definitely need to limit it to bluelinked prisons. Anything that's a redlink can't be notable. Maybe that's enough, I don't know. If not...maybe some kind of standard for media coverage or historical notability? ♠PMC♠ 08:09, 31 August 2007 (UTC) Edit: And I apparently didn't notice that there was already a list of prisons. That was clever work, on my part. Wow.[reply]
    • Well unless there's a strong desire to create a separate of the most notable prisons, on the lines of list of important operas, the easiest option is to let this get merged to the main list. Finding objective criteria is hard work. Kappa 09:14, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject Prisons[edit]

If anyone is interested, I have proposed a new Wikiproject concerning prisons here.--Cdogsimmons (talk) 22:46, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PRC prisons[edit]

There is a whole bunch of PRC prison stubs that survived an AfD - see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chinese prisons by Sarcelles. It's rather stretching credibility to imagine that about 120 prisons from a 23M-population country, Australia, are notable, but only 4 prisons (3 red-linked) are notable in the 1300M-population country, PRC. Are the controversially-created stub articles notable enough for this list? For someone interested in working on this: some related articles seem to include Laogai and Penal system in the People's Republic of China. Deletionists should check out WP:BIAS if they don't understand the demographic bias problem in the English-language Wikipedia. Boud (talk) 21:20, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

new country sections[edit]

See ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 for the 3-letter codes that are used for country names here. Boud (talk) 21:27, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Contents bar[edit]

The contents bar doesn't seem to be working for me. For example, if I click on "M", it doesn't take me down the list to the M's (same with any other letter). I don't know how to fix it or else I would. Coinmanj (talk) 07:47, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The reason it is not working is because there is no heading ==M==. You would need to introduce the letter headings and move the existing headings down a level to get it to work. Keith D (talk) 19:41, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, if that's the case then there are no headings and so the thing is kind of pointless at the moment. Guess I'll get to work. Coinmanj (talk) 01:05, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
