I would've expected the header for this to be "Upanishads" as there are a number of them and none (to my knowledge) is known as THE Upanishad. zadcat 22:46 Sep 4, 2002 (PDT)

Well, I'm not in charge here ;) but I think it's more accurate. An admin will have to remove the "The Upanishad" page now. It's a good idea to be careful naming new pages for that reason. zadcat 22:56 Sep 4, 2002 (PDT)


well the admin. (Maveric149) moved the page from 'the upanishads' to 'upanishad',how do i ask him to move it back?

it's different if it's Upanishad rather than THE Upanishad, as now it's defining the generic word Upanishad, see?

The plural was superfluous as was the word "the". Below is the dictionary definiton of simply "upanishad".

    n : later sacred texts of Hinduism dealing with broad
        philosophical questions
