New page for filmography?[edit]

Pronunciation[edit]

I have just added a pronunciation of his name (a topic of considerable discussion on the internet, mainly due to the ambiguity provided by different DVD releases). It is correct AFAIK, but I would appreciate somebody who actually speaks Japanese to clarify (particularly the weighting). Also anyone who knows about v-cinema, my knowledge is limited so I have left it as a stub until I have read some more. Pseudosocrates 17:23, Nov 23, 2004 (UTC)

I may be confusing your intent here but what are you basing that on? It's not really false since Takashi is written last when you write out his name in Japanese, but Miike is still the family name (or last name in the western sense) and that's what we should be going by. Calling someone 'Bill' or 'George' throughout an article wouldn't sound right, and in the same vein, calling this person 'Takashi' throughout the article isn't very encyclopedic. Ichi The Killer cuts[edit]

Removed this phrase regarding the BBFC cutting Ichi the Killer:

"Many regarded this as inconsistency, as they had recently passed Irréversible (2002), a film featuring a nine-minute rape scene, uncut."

A statement like this really needs a citation to back it up. There's no evidence that "many" people thought this, so it seems to me that someone is trying to work their opinion into this paragraph. A read of the BBFC news releases on each of the films shows why it is not inconsistent in any case.80.7.59.211 (talk) 16:02, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kamisama no pazuru[edit]

Currently this article's Director table includes "The Puzzle of God" .. "Kamisama no pazuru". I'm inclined to change that "The Puzzle of God" to "God's Puzzle". IMDB says Kamisama no pazuru is also known as "God's Puzzle (International: English title)". Google search for Miike Takashi and "God's Puzzle" gets "about 515" matches. Google search for Miike Takashi and "The Puzzle of God" get only "about 18 " matches. --EarthFurst (talk) 23:11, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I added the English title as The Puzzle of God because that is how it's translated on the official site. However, I was looking over the article on film naming conventions and found this.
"If the film has been released under different titles within the English speaking world - if for example, some English-speaking countries prefer to use the native title, or if different translations are used in different countries - use the most common title throughout, and explain the other titles in the first or second sentence, putting each of them in bold."
So you can go ahead and change that to God's Puzzle seeing that it is the majority consensus. If someone decides to make an article for the film later on a redirect should be made from the alternate translation. --Pinkpineapple (talk) 00:58, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heritage[edit]

Hi everyone,

This confuses me. "Miike was born to Korean parents in Yao, Osaka, Japan, an area inhabited by the poor working class immigrants from the Korean Peninsula. His family originally emigrated to Kumamoto Prefecture. During World War II, his grandfather was stationed in China and Korea, and his father was born in Seoul in today's South Korea".

That it is not chronological is illogical. If Miike's grandfather was stationed in China and Korea during World War II, am I correct to assume that his grandfather was Japanese? And is his father's mother Japanese or Korean? In that case, is Miike's father actually Korean, or a Japanese person born in Korea? And what about Miike's mother?
