Baron de Gunzburg[edit]

One or more anonymous editors have removed the protégé relationship between this designer and the Baron. This is now sourced, please discuss here if you have issues or questions. To the best of my knowledge the two were never 'partners' but the Baron did serve as a mentor to three famous designers of whom de la Renta was one. Doc 17:59, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just to make it clear Oscar de la Renta is not considered to be an American designer72.27.4.93 20:38, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

American versus Dominican[edit]

De la Renta is an American fashion designer, not a Dominican one. To call him a Dominican fashion designer would be like calling Arnold Schwarzenegger a Austrian politician ... accurate in one sense but highly inaccurate in all other ways. De la Renta has been an American citizen since 1971 and has practiced most of his career in the United States. Ergo, he is properly an American fashion designer. (I made a mistake in the notation of my change earlier, re dual citizenship, which he does not hold.)Mowens35 23:22, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

De la Renta born Dominican in 1932 and naturalized American in 1971. He was only an American until 1994, when Dominican Constitution was changed in order to allow double-nationality. Since 1994, De la Renta has double nationality.--72.19.30.130 (talk) 04:04, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I mean, one can easily say American-Dominican Designer, no? He is Dominican, was born there. He honed his craft and his art in Europe and he made his business in the States, but it doesn't make him less Dominican. 68.175.83.141 (talk) 21:34, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I resently purchased a bottle of your perfume at a yard sale the top was missing. I s there any way I can replace it. Your perfume is wonderful and because of prices I have never been able to afford it. The company I used to work for sent me out every year to purchase some for our boss lady. Thank you. Oscar de la Renta is considered to be an American designers. If you look up any fashion article, particularly those who cover his dressing of politicians, he's referred to as American, or Dominican American, never American. Mikellestreet (talk) 01:32, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Family Surname[edit]

According to various Caribbean sources (published books, I mean, about the history of the Caribbean, especially the leading families of Puerto Rico and their genealogies), the full surname should be Ortíz de la Renta, the same surname that was borne by the designer's paternal great-grandfather, cited in the Wikipedia article. An interview with and profile of the designer published in Mirabella magazine (1991) gives his name as Oscar Ortíz de la Renta. Given these sources, would it cause a kerfuffle to add this name, with proper citations?Kitchawan (talk) 17:44, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This comment above is correct the surname is Ortiz de la Renta.

Coining of Fashion victim[edit]

I feel that his apparent coining of the word fashion victim deserves to be mentioned somewhere on his page, but I don’t know where to put that information. 좀비 브렌다 (talk) 19:20, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
