Since the page had so much information on the Milwaukee Road's Hiawathas, Hiawatha (passenger train) seemed to make more sense than Hiawatha (Amtrak).

Which ROW does this AMTRAK service use through the City of Chicago? J. Crocker 18:38, August 23, 2005 (UTC)

That doesn't seem to make sense, the route you described is called the MD-N line. It goes northwest from Chicago. The UP-N line goes directly north and seems to be a better route for going from Milwaukee to Chicago. J. Crocker 18:22, August 30, 2005 (UTC)

Metra UP-N trains run into the Ogilvie Transportation Center, while Amtrak serves Union Station. There may be no connection. There may also be better track conditions or dealings with the owners of the MD-N than the UP-N. --SPUI (talk) 18:49, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed move[edit]

The article as named is a misleading conflation of two different services. In the 1970s Amtrak operated a Hiawatha on the Chicago-Minneapolis route. This was a direct successor to the old Milwaukee Road brand. Separate from this is the Hiawatha Service, an umbrella term for a number of trains on the Chicago-Milwaukee corridor (which have at times had their own names). I would suggest treating the newer Chicago-Milwaukee Hiawatha Service (Amtrak) as its own concept in its own article, with links back to this article discussing the old Hiawatha, which really died off with the North Star. Train name, misnomer[edit]

The problem is that the train name itself is a huge misnomer or deception. Given that the original Hiawatha trains were several in number to and back from Minneapolis, it is deceptive to name Milwaukee run, a small fraction of the run, Hiawatha.Dogru144 (talk) 00:14, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • When I made that comment the article was at Hiawatha (Amtrak), which was all kinds of bad. I moved it to Hiawatha Service a few days after making that comment. It's not completely deceptive--Amtrak does use the ex-Milwaukee Road, and if Wisconsin and Minnesota ever get their act together we might see a Hiawatha or two extended north.
