This page can be used to find celebrities who are also wikipedians, as well as track edits by persons to articles on themselves in the future. Anxious to know if I'm violating any policies <insert nail-biting smiley like the one on Y! messenger>. -- Paddu 21:54, 21 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I predict some killjoy will list this for deletion before Halloween, but it is not going to be me. Pcb21| Pete 22:29, 21 Oct 2004 (UTC)

This should probably be deleted since it's an uninteresting self-reference. ✏ Sverdrup 22:49, 21 Oct 2004 (UTC)

It can be useful for keeping track of Wikipedians with articles (yes, it really can ;-). That's useful for example to ensure that wikipedians with articles don't insert POV information about themselves in their articles. It's also useful for Wikipedia as a project to have a list of "famous" or otherwise notable contributors, that can potentially be used for PR pushing etc. To avoid breaking the self-ref policy, perhaps we should move the category to the talk pages of each person instead, like we do for featured articles? — David Remahl 01:30, 19 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Or perhaps we could put the User: pages in the category, instead of the articles? After all, in its current form, it doesn't tell you, for instance, under what username Steve Mann edits; I believe he is User:Glogger; but then, listing that page wouldn't tell you what the article was called. Hmph. What if there were a template we could put on the Talk: page of the article, that also added it to this category?

e.g. "This article is about a current or previous wikipedian. Their username on this site is {} "

(perhaps with some added fancy border or whatever). Any good? - IMSoP 17:22, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I'd categorize the article or the talk page, not the user page (after all, some people get kind of uptight about having their user pages edited). Something like IMSoP's suggestion could be a good idea. --Michael Snow 07:24, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

IMSoP's idea is good. (I'm getting curious about the user names of some of these.:)) BTW why is nobody objecting to the ungrammatical name? No short grammatical names? How about Category:Wikipedian Biographies? (Ah, something reasonable got at long last!) -- Paddu 12:22, 28 Nov 2004 (UTC)
IMSoP's proposal also adheres to Wikipedia:Avoid self-references in that only the talk page mentions Wikipedia(n). DISCLAIMER: I've just been editing that page; the version before my edits is here. (BTW the initial name I thought of for this category was "Wikipedians with an article in Wikipedia" which was so big I contracted it to "Wikipedians with article".) -- Paddu 14:41, 28 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Celebrities on Wikipedia: real or not?

But how do we know which users alleging themselves to be celebrities actually are that person? There's a controversial alleged Hilary Duff online at the present time, as of yet not definitively proven fake or real. Dtobias 18:38, 25 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I think it's safe to assume it's not the celebrity until proven otherwise. —tregoweth 23:13, Dec 27, 2004 (UTC)

Alphabetization (technical questions)

Why is David A. Wheeler not filed under W on this page? Why is Michael Everson not filed under E on this page? Why is William Connolley not filed under C on this page? Evertype 19:28, 2005 Jan 1 (UTC)

Problem

Does it say anywhere which Wikipedia name any of these is equivalent to?? (For example, if suppose one of these belongs to Seth Ilys, then it should mention somewhere that that is Seth Ilys's biography.) (Note that the example I gave is just an example to show what I mean; I just want to see what Wikipedians these are the real names of.) Georgia guy 16:51, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)

We should ideally be having a template usable in the article-talk namespace as IMSoP said earlier, probably using the template arg to either specify the Wikipedia username or say "anonymous" for those who don't want their username revealed (as I'd suppose some of them won't like their usernames revealed). -- Paddu 20:36, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
