Untitled[edit]

I am just wondering about the dates listed as the formation of the band Operation Ivy? You list them as starting in 1987. I know my band opened for them in June of 1986. We were called Porcelain God. It was a small garage party in Chico, CA. We literally played out of a garage to about 30 or 40 drunk skate punks and assorted others. The show was at Penny Voekel's house, and Operation Ivy and Crimpshrine both played. I thought they shared some members in common too? I believe Matt used to visit Chico quite a bit back then, as he was friends with my friend Nicole Montalbano. That also translated into an exodus of many of us visiting Berkeley and going to shows at Gilman Street! I just wanted to share this little tidbit of ancient history! Maybe it is not very interesting to "the whole world" who has been friend of whom, but I miss a lot of information on subjects like MRR, Gilman Street, and so on. Operation Ivy did in fact start in 1987. You probably played for Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman's pre-Operation Ivy band Basic Radio. There is proof of their beginings in the Rancid song Journey to the End where Tim says "Started in '87, ended in '89"-Zman48

Sound clip[edit]

I like the fact that there is a sound clip available, but "Bad Town" isn't the best example. Tim sings lead vocals on this track, whereas Jesse normally provides the lead vocals. It's also the only Op Ivy track with a saxophone. I'd suggest "Sound System" or "Here We Go Again" as better examples.

Yes, "Bad Town" is not the best example for Operation Ivy. And I agree that "Sound System" and "Here We Go Again" are some better examples. Other good examples would be "Knowledge", "Unity", maybe "Jaded". So I think that either of those five would be good. :) --Blaguymonkey (talk) 08:37, 25 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jesse in Nicaragua[edit]

That's not apocryphal; he did spend time there.

Cite a source please, and add it. I had read somewhere that he actually became a longtime employee for the record label as an artist. I mostly find this unlikely because record labels contract this out. Tempshill (talk) 05:20, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Off Lookout! Records?[edit]

operationivy.com reported that the band met in February of 2006, and that their Lookout! releases are, as of April 2006, showing up as unavailable on the LookoutRecords site. Given the fairly recent Green Day fiasco, resulting in Green Day pulling their previous albums due to alleged nonpayments of royalties, it seems fairly likely Operation Ivy has now done the same. Presumably, we will shortly see a re-release of at least the primary Op Ivy album on a new label. (None of this has been confirmed by the band or the label, so this is more of a heads-up than a suggestion for changes to the main page.) Davebug 05:38, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hedgecore[edit]

no, hedgecore should probably no be merged with the article on Operation Ivy. Actually Hedgecore should be merged with an article about the "new sports" or new activities which musicians and artist often engage in. Actually there was a full story about this phenomenon in Thursday's (06/22/06) Chicago Tribue spotlighting a group of people who are playing urban golf, the chiditarod cart race, and urban capture the flag. Discography[edit]

Hey, I found a copy of "Technical Difficulties" a set of live recordings done at the Gilmore at a local used CD shop, I cannot seem to find any mention of it on the internet. Unless I'm mistaken, the image in the infobox is not actually the cover of the Energy LP, but the cover of the self-titled anthology album that was released in 1991. Misprint[edit]

Isocracy?[edit]

Clean-up[edit]

This article could use some clean-up, including grammar, references, ect. I have tried cleaning up as best as I can, but it could still use some additional clean-up.
