PROFILE OF CHAUDHRY PARVEZ ELAHI

Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, son of Chaudhry Manzoor Elahi, was born on November 1, 1945 in Gujrat and comes of a distinguished political family. He graduated in 1967.and obtained Diploma in Industrial Management from London. An industrialist, who has been Chairman, District Council Gujrat, has continuously been serving as member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab since 1985, having been elected for the 6th consecutive term in 2002. He had been Minister for Local Government and Rural Development from 1985 to 1986, 1988 to 1990 and 1990 to 1993. During 1993-1996, he acted as Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly and then also as Leader of the Opposition. He was unanimously elected as Speaker of the Assembly in February 1997 and continued in this office till Oct, 12, 1999. He is the elected President of Pakistan Muslim League, Punjab.
