Dior (Middle-earth)

Hi Ausir. I see you've changed Dior into a disambiguation page. While that is of course fine, you have COPIED all text from there to Dior (Middle-earth) instead of moving, so you've caused all the edit history to be lost.

In the future if you want to make a change like this, click 'Move this page' in the sidebar while you're at the location you want to change, and then go back to the old page (which has been turned into a redirect), and turn that into a disambiguation page.

History of Middle-Earth

Are you aware of the new feature which allows you to create a single table showing the contents of a series and "paste" it into the article for each book in that series? You create a page in the Mediawiki namespace (eg Mediawiki:HistoryOfMiddleEarth), put your table into it and then you insert it into each of the articles by using {{msg:HistoryOfMiddleEarth}}. There's a nice feature which ensures that the link to the particular article you're looking at is made into bold type rather than attempting a self-link. HTH --Phil 16:16, Mar 1, 2004 (UTC)

ObAaron: yes. South Buckinghamshire contains a link to Template:SE England. You will note that the link to the former contained in the latter appears as bold type when the latter is transcluded (apparently the technical term---I think they made it up :-) in the former. If you then go to Aylesbury Vale then that page appears in the table in bold; you will note that the table is literally the same table in each case. HTH --Phil 16:42, Mar 1, 2004 (UTC)

Awakening of the Elves

What do you think of creating an Awakening of the Elves article to incorporate the info on Imin, Tata, and Enel and related subjects?

Otherwise that info would be spread over at least three different articles, with some more in Vanyar, Noldor, Teleri, and Cuiviénen.

Stewards of Gondor

Do you think between the two of us (and of course others) we can write up enough material to warrant a listing of all the Stewards of Gondor? More was written about most of them than of the Kings of Arthedain or Rangers of the North, who all have their own articles. Elvish family trees

Feanor and Template:FeanorThey may look good on your computer, but they don't on mine -- probably because of typeface my browser uses versus yours. (I took a screen capture and can email it to you to see what I mean.) The issue is, it doesn't look the same for all computers, and unless a graphic can be made, they should be pulled altogether. Not really: they are encased in a <code> tag, which means your browser should supply a monospace font, which always looks the same. i see it as intended also. i think your browser is not correctly configured? Anárion 14:00, 28 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Use the Preview button

Categories of Slavic peoples article

Why did you remove "Category:Ethnic groups" and "Category:Ancient peoples" from the Slavic peoples article? Can't an article be listed in more than one category section? Slavs are both an ethnic continuum and an ancient people. - Gilgamesh 10:03, 13 June 2004 (UTC)

Fourth Age

According to The Peoples of Middle-earth, "The Making of Appendix A (iv): Durin's Folk", Khazad-dûm was refounded in the Fourth Age by Durin VII the Last. Wikipedia policy is to accept late material as canon if it does not conflict with the Hobbit or LOTR. Anárion 09:31, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)

The map in the ME article

It is obviously after the end of the First Age, but also after the end of the Second Age. We have no maps showing what the Beleriand remnants looked like before the second drowning except that Lindon was greater before. Therefore it is best to label the map as during the Third Age. Wiem że Matejko zmarł dawno temy ale nie jestem pewien czy wydawnictwo książki Poczet Królów Polski nie ma na nich praw. Moja edycja jest z 1980 roku a prawa w Polsce trwają 70 lat po śmierci autora i chyba 80 lat po wydaniu dla prac zbiorowych. Mógłbyś wyjaśnić pochodzenie ilustracji na ich stronach? Vladislaus

Google returns much more "Ladislaus" than "Vladislaus" results. It seems that both latinized versions were in use. Ladislaus is more common in google searches, so it should IMHO be kept as the main name for the articles, but Vladislaus/Wladislaus/Ladislas (this version is also common in google) versions should be created as redirects. Yes, you're right. But I often don't know the latin name of the animal. (It's a picture of a flamingo, for instance, but I don't know which species.) Article Licensing

Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to...

1. ...all U.S. state, county, and city articles...
2. ...all articles...

using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) version 1.0 and 2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to the GFDL (which every contribution made to Wikipedia is licensed under), but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles (See the Multi-licensing Guide for more information). Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. So far over 90% of people who have responded have done this.

Nutshell: Wikipedia articles can be shared with any other GFDL project but open/free projects using the incompatible Creative Commons Licenses (e.g. WikiTravel) can't use our stuff and we can't use theirs. It is important to us that other free projects can use our stuff. So we use their licenses too.

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the {{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}} template (or {{MultiLicensePD}} for public domain) into their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1

I agree to [[Wikipedia:Multi-licensing|multi-license]] all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:

OR

Option 2

Signpost Article

Glad you liked the portal. With the slow spell Wikipedia suffered this morning, it took me a long time to get it up. I just threw in some DYK facts from the main page archive to get things started, but I think you should try and compile some standard rules on what can be included.

That said, I've talked to Michael Snow and decided I would do an article on the Portals if I could find the info, but the German (interwiki link is dead), Dutch and French wikipedia's aren't much help. Can you translate some useful info from the Polish pedua for me?

I'd like to know where the Wikiportals originated, who made the first one and especially what the distinction between wikiportals and projects are in your opinion.

I hate to bother you with this, because I am sure there are much more important subjects that need translation from Polish to English and vice-versa, but I have a personal connection to this place. I tried Babelfishing it, but that just produced a bunch of pseudo-English and Polish gobbeldygook that didn't give me enough to work with, considering I know only a few words of Polish. The Polish article isn't that long, so if you have the time, please consider translating pl:Wapno_(wieś).

I've already done enough injustice to the subject to try to write anymore about it. Unfortunately, there are no English language sources about it and I have to combine my family oral history with what scant bits of information from Polish websites that I am able to comprehend. (I thought it was in Wielkopolskie voivodship, which contains Poznan -- WRONG, although it seems that it was formerly in the Province of Posen).

Images of Pope and Christodoulous

Ausir --- I have edited the images (Image:Pope and Christodoulos.jpg and Image:Pope and Christodoulos2.jpg) as I was incorrect in them being public domain. I believe that they both qualify as fair use, which I have indicated on their pages, as well as including their source.
