Mara Jade[edit]

I see you're a Star Wars fan, and in looking at the change you made, I happened to read Mara Jade. Am I the only person who doesn't know what "the emperor's Hand" means? I expound upon this intolerant rant further at Talk:Mara Jade in the hope that some kind soul will explain it to me. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 01:37, 9 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Dior (Middle-earth)[edit]

Hi Ausir. I see you've changed Dior into a disambiguation page. While that is of course fine, you have COPIED all text from there to Dior (Middle-earth) instead of moving, so you've caused all the edit history to be lost.

In the future if you want to make a change like this, click 'Move this page' in the sidebar while you're at the location you want to change, and then go back to the old page (which has been turned into a redirect), and turn that into a disambiguation page.

Cheers, Jor 15:21, 9 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Good work[edit]

Ausir - good work on the science fiction articles. I was watching many of them, so when you started editing them all, my watchlist lit up like a christmas tree. Good work, I like some of your changes. I'm still pondering the question you posted on the talk:Foundation Series page, so don't think I've ignored it. →Raul654 04:17, Feb 13, 2004 (UTC)

Ausir, I appreciate your enthusiasm on the Foundation articles, but please use the preview button before making changes. Having you change an article 6 or 8 times in a row makes tracking overall changes hard. →Raul654 00:08, Feb 17, 2004 (UTC)

Sorry, got it. I'll be previewing it from now on :) Ausir

Foundation's Friends[edit]

Just to let you know - Foundation's Friends is not preceeded by Foundation and Earth. Friends take place at many different parts throughout the series, so it's best not to list an particular preceeed or followed by.

When you get a chance, please see Talk:Psychohistory_(fictional) RK 03:14, Jun 11, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks re:MA links[edit]

Glad to see someone else is adding links to Memory Alpha articles on the Star Trek-related pages here. Keep up the good work! -- Seth Ilys 01:52, 24 Feb 2004 (UTC)

History of Middle-Earth[edit]

Are you aware of the new feature which allows you to create a single table showing the contents of a series and "paste" it into the article for each book in that series? You create a page in the Mediawiki namespace (eg Mediawiki:HistoryOfMiddleEarth), put your table into it and then you insert it into each of the articles by using . There's a nice feature which ensures that the link to the particular article you're looking at is made into bold type rather than attempting a self-link. HTH --Phil 16:16, Mar 1, 2004 (UTC)

Can you give me a link to an example of such table? Ausir 16:27, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)

ObAaron: yes. South Buckinghamshire contains a link to Template:SE England. You will note that the link to the former contained in the latter appears as bold type when the latter is transcluded (apparently the technical term---I think they made it up :-) in the former. If you then go to Aylesbury Vale then that page appears in the table in bold; you will note that the table is literally the same table in each case. HTH --Phil 16:42, Mar 1, 2004 (UTC)

Just a note--in that , you misspelled a word. It should be "miscellaneous" (see [1]). Not trying to be nitpicky, hope this helps. Yours, Meelar 20:01, 9 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Middle-earth[edit]

You are doing great work on the Middle-earth articles. I keep running into edit conflicts with you ;-) Jor 11:52, 10 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Edit summaries[edit]

Hey Ausir. Could you please start using edit summaries? It would help in knowing what edits to check. Even a short note like "add msg:lotr" would be okay. Thanks! Jor 21:03, 10 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Forest River[edit]

Thanks for doing the links etc on that page, it looks really good now. Cheers again. Timo.

Dunedain[edit]

Why did you change it back? What I put about Strider and Rangers was true, and an important part of Dunedain culture and history... Timo

The paragraphs you wrote were not very encyclopedic. The current info on Aragorn and Rangers I wrote fits the style of the whole article more. And please learn how to use wikilinks. Anyway, welcome to Wikipedia! Ausir 21:46, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Bird-of-Prey[edit]

I see we share the same interests... Perhaps we could update the Star Trek material together? I know a great detail, and could go on editing, but it would create a lot of empty pages like my stuff on Captain Picard did... Timo.

I'm busy working on Middle-earth articles. But please read at least some of these pages: Wikipedia:Style and How-to Directory before you start editing more articles. Ausir 22:09, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Awakening of the Elves[edit]

What do you think of creating an Awakening of the Elves article to incorporate the info on Imin, Tata, and Enel and related subjects?

Otherwise that info would be spread over at least three different articles, with some more in Vanyar, Noldor, Teleri, and Cuiviénen.

I'm asking you since you appear to be very busy with ME articles at the moment and I don't want us to work past eachother. In any case I'll maybe start on it later, but of course if you have more time please go ahead. — Jor (Darkelf) 22:38, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Please, go ahead :). Ausir 22:44, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Okay, I've written a rough version from memory. If I get a chance later I'll check with the source material and refine it. — Jor (Darkelf) 23:08, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)
I've moved some info from Avari that didn't really fit that article to Awakening of the Elves. Ausir 23:47, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Isengard[edit]

Heya. If you have time, can you take a look at Isengard and Orthanc? I've rewritten both articles but would appreciate your expert look on them, see if I made any mistakes or left anything out. I like your idea of "Tolkien stubs" by the way. — Jor (Darkelf) 20:50, 15 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hehe, Solar system - I clicked on "Edit this page" to remove it myself and found it had already disappeared! (User:r3m0t)

Hi[edit]

Hi Ausir. Didn't we met in real life on one of Polish Star Trek Conventions? Small world, isn't it? Przepla 12:54, 20 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Heh, small world indeed :). Ausir 13:14, 20 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Stewards of Gondor[edit]

Do you think between the two of us (and of course others) we can write up enough material to warrant a listing of all the Stewards of Gondor? More was written about most of them than of the Kings of Arthedain or Rangers of the North, who all have their own articles. I'd like to see a series of Stewards much like we now have the Kings listings. — Jor (Talk) 16:41, 21 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Yeah, I agree. Go ahead and start adding them :). Ausir 16:45, 21 Mar 2004 (UTC)

____ Thanks for the notice about the Tolkien articles. It's such a big website already that I would have easily missed the appropriate pages to add the articles! SD6-Agent 23:46, 4 Apr 2004 (UTC)

How exactly do I create a redirect? Anárion 21:24, 24 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Elvish family trees[edit]

Feanor and Template:FeanorThey may look good on your computer, but they don't on mine -- probably because of typeface my browser uses versus yours. (I took a screen capture and can email it to you to see what I mean.) The issue is, it doesn't look the same for all computers, and unless a graphic can be made, they should be pulled altogether. Alcarillo 14:55 28 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Not really: they are encased in a <code> tag, which means your browser should supply a monospace font, which always looks the same. i see it as intended also. i think your browser is not correctly configured? Anárion 14:00, 28 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Looks like everyone except Alcarillo sees them as they should look like... What browser are you using? Ausir 14:59, 28 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Yep, I had a sans-serif font selected for my monospace. Sorry, przepraszam....

Alcarillo 16:30 28 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Use the Preview button[edit]

Ausir, I think I mentioned this before - please use the preview button when making edits. That way, you don't end up saving a dozen nearly-identical versions of an article. For the rest of us, it makes tracking changes much easier in the long run. →Raul654 15:23, Jun 10, 2004 (UTC)

Categories of Slavic peoples article[edit]

Why did you remove "Category:Ethnic groups" and "Category:Ancient peoples" from the Slavic peoples article? Can't an article be listed in more than one category section? Slavs are both an ethnic continuum and an ancient people. - Gilgamesh 10:03, 13 June 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Because it's now redundant, as the Slavic peoples is now in the category:Slavs, which is included in those two categories. Ausir 10:04, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)
Yes, just now realized that. My mistake. ^_^; I'll revert my revert now. - Gilgamesh 10:08, 13 June 2004 (UTC)[reply]
Actually that's not good enough. You need convert either none or all to this format, otherwise the categories are inconsistent. --Shallot 12:10, 13 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Jacek Kuron[edit]

May I ask what did you do to my Jacek Kuroń article? Przepla 21:15, 18 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I'm sorry, it was an accident :/ Ausir 21:17, 18 Jun 2004 (UTC)

No problem, now you know that you can't use Polish diacritics in English Wikipedia links ;-). I'll took care of restoring the history of that page, by requesting cleanup by sysops. Przepla 21:30, 18 Jun 2004 (UTC)

~:I've been using weird diactrics for Tolkien articles, and I din't know other ones don't work :>. Ausir 21:34, 18 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Fourth Age[edit]

According to The Peoples of Middle-earth, "The Making of Appendix A (iv): Durin's Folk", Khazad-dûm was refounded in the Fourth Age by Durin VII the Last. Wikipedia policy is to accept late material as canon if it does not conflict with the Hobbit or LOTR. Anárion 09:31, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Oops, haven't noticed this one. Ausir 09:37, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)
No problem. Especially in the appendices the history of LOTR can be extremely confusing! Anárion 09:47, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC)

The map in the ME article[edit]

It is obviously after the end of the First Age, but also after the end of the Second Age. We have no maps showing what the Beleriand remnants looked like before the second drowning except that Lindon was greater before. Therefore it is best to label the map as during the Third Age. Anárion 09:26, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Copyright rulers of Poland[edit]

(not a strict translation: mainly I am not sure that the images of the Polish rulers are copyright free. They seem scanned from a book edited in the 1981 and one of the images concerned is this)

Vladislaus[edit]

I've certainly seen historians (e.g. Norman Davies) use the version Ladislaus. Ausir 00:49, 26 Jul 2004 (UTC) For me Ladislaus seems to be a speling error. How about an article at Vladislaus, Ladislaus being a redirect?? Vladislaus Rex 00:50, 26 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Google returns much more "Ladislaus" than "Vladislaus" results. It seems that both latinized versions were in use. Ladislaus is more common in google searches, so it should IMHO be kept as the main name for the articles, but Vladislaus/Wladislaus/Ladislas (this version is also common in google) versions should be created as redirects. Ausir 00:51, 26 Jul 2004 (UTC)

How many of these google returns are about the Polish kings??? Should we promote an error, just beacase it is widespread?? Ladislaus looks like a German version of the name, not English at all. Vladislaus Rex 00:58, 26 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for tidying up Warhammer :) ··gracefool | 11:38, 12 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Campaign setting and categories[edit]

Sorry for recategorizing in a disputed form. ··gracefool | 10:54, 13 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Categories do not get placed onto WP:VFD. Instead, they can either be tagged with cfd or placed on WP:CFD. I've delisted from VfD, and deleted the category as it was already empty. - UtherSRG 13:26, 13 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Update on (V)ladislaus[edit]

Would you now say the dispute at Talk:Ladislaus has been resolved? It's been inactive since July 26. Reply at my talk page. Peter O. (Talk) 00:39, Aug 20, 2004 (UTC)

Votes for deletion/European Union Olympic medals count for 2004[edit]

You may be interested in a last-ditch attempt to save User:Pgreenfinch's endangered article European Union Olympic medals count for 2004 which is on a subpage page of VfD at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/European Union Olympic medals count for 2004. Because this is a subpage it may not be noticed by those scanning the regular VfD page. Recent votes to keep appear to be sock-puppets or people who have become users only to support this article. You may wish to add your vote or comments or both. Jallan 13:30, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Dwarves & Dwarfs[edit]

re: your comment on my page: Yes, I realise this now, I have reverted some of the edits I made (but I kept the ones that refer to astronomy, as dwarfs is the correct usage in this context). PhilHibbs 12:30, 27 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Tag on image[edit]

On Image:GreatWallTower.jpg you added a line (after the cc line) with the image reference preceded with "pl:", all within double brackets. Could you please inform me as to what the function of this is? It does not change anything in the appearance on my browser. I will watch here - thanks, Leonard G. 23:21, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Quarto[edit]

I move Pl.Quarto from meta to the WFM site, since on "Translation requests" it was said the work has been done. Chcck the Polish version and if you have to proofedit it further, feel free to leave your comment on m:Wikimedia site feedback or my talk on meta. Latin names on commons[edit]

Yes, you're right. But I often don't know the latin name of the animal. (It's a picture of a flamingo, for instance, but I don't know which species.) I figure that with any luck, some kind and hardworking soul will clean up after me. :) Wikilove, Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 00:54, Nov 14, 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to...

 1. ...all U.S. state, county, and city articles...
 2. ...all articles...

using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) version 1.0 and 2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to the GFDL (which every contribution made to Wikipedia is licensed under), but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles (See the Multi-licensing Guide for more information). Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. So far over 90% of people who have responded have done this.

Nutshell: Wikipedia articles can be shared with any other GFDL project but open/free projects using the incompatible Creative Commons Licenses (e.g. WikiTravel) can't use our stuff and we can't use theirs. It is important to us that other free projects can use our stuff. So we use their licenses too.

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual template (or MultiLicensePD for public domain) into their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual with MultiLicensePD. If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know at my talk page what you think. It's important to know, even if you choose to do anything so I don't keep asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk) 14:37, Dec 3, 2004 (UTC)

Re: your posting on my talk: See my talk (User talk:Leonard G.) my last word on the subject, at least until it is addressed at a higher level. Leonard G. 20:42, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading the image

I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release it under the GFDL, or fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the image and I'll tag it for you. Thanks, Kbh3rd 01:18, 20 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Barnstar awarded for new Wikiportals[edit]

Here, have a barnstar. I love the new English Wikiportals! -- Mgm|(talk) 11:06, Feb 8, 2005 (UTC)

On another note, I can't find any guidelines on how to maintain a portal. How long are Did you know items kept for example? Mgm|(talk) 12:35, Feb 8, 2005 (UTC)

 • I just finished creating the Wikiportal for Sport and games. Please tell me what you think. Mgm|(talk) 11:42, Feb 9, 2005 (UTC)

Signpost Article[edit]

Glad you liked the portal. With the slow spell Wikipedia suffered this morning, it took me a long time to get it up. I just threw in some DYK facts from the main page archive to get things started, but I think you should try and compile some standard rules on what can be included.

That said, I've talked to Michael Snow and decided I would do an article on the Portals if I could find the info, but the German (interwiki link is dead), Dutch and French wikipedia's aren't much help. Can you translate some useful info from the Polish pedua for me?

I'd like to know where the Wikiportals originated, who made the first one and especially what the distinction between wikiportals and projects are in your opinion.

Hope you can help. :) Mgm|(talk) 18:32, Feb 9, 2005 (UTC)

 • You may have noticed it already, but the article was finished an published by the time you responded. Thanks for the answers though, I'll try and see if I can work something in. Mgm|(talk) 08:40, Feb 16, 2005 (UTC)

Translation[edit]

Could you translate a page meta:How to start a new Wikipedia for Polish pl:Wikipedia:Jak utworzyć nową Wikipedię?

Translation[edit]

I hate to bother you with this, because I am sure there are much more important subjects that need translation from Polish to English and vice-versa, but I have a personal connection to this place. I tried Babelfishing it, but that just produced a bunch of pseudo-English and Polish gobbeldygook that didn't give me enough to work with, considering I know only a few words of Polish. The Polish article isn't that long, so if you have the time, please consider translating pl:Wapno_(wieś).

I've already done enough injustice to the subject to try to write anymore about it. Unfortunately, there are no English language sources about it and I have to combine my family oral history with what scant bits of information from Polish websites that I am able to comprehend. (I thought it was in Wielkopolskie voivodship, which contains Poznan -- WRONG, although it seems that it was formerly in the Province of Posen).

Images of Pope and Christodoulous[edit]

Ausir --- I have edited the images (Image:Pope and Christodoulos.jpg and Image:Pope and Christodoulos2.jpg) as I was incorrect in them being public domain. I believe that they both qualify as fair use, which I have indicated on their pages, as well as including their source.
