Macwrite is not the first such program that was widely available to the public to offer WYSIWYG operation.

That was Lisawrite published 1983 with Apple Lisa.

I'm not sure that the Lisa really counts as widely available. It was unpopular and sold poorly, and was aimed at business users anyhow. As far as widely available, the Mac fits the bill. --Dcclark 03:19, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
