Untitled[edit]

I'm planning on doing a lot more here. The full history wasn't clear and thus is very incomplete and partially inaccurate, but it looks like Rasputina has updated their site with better information so I can edit that or someone else can if they get to it first. Hopefully it will do for now! Ansate 18:35, 23 Mar 2004 (UTC)

I'm really hoping that this page can be improved on sometime in the future. At the moment I think this really needs to be sorted out: The page says "Creager writes all of the lyrics for Rasputina, performs all of the vocals, and does all of the cover art for the albums." Yet the album at the side states "Cover from "The Lost and Found" by Ryan Obermeyer", and looking at his page it seemed he has done more than just this cover for the band.. so which is it? Cellos?[edit]

Anyone know what Cellos they use? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:A601:AAE0:C600:5D32:F52C:9BD1:D89B (talk) 05:01, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm certain Melora at some point mentioned who made her cello, possibly in the "Melora shows off her equipment" youtube video, which seems to have since been deleted. If anyone else can find this info, please share, looking for it is making me feel insane! Gravelove (talk) 04:13, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I dont know if you're still out there or if you still care, stranger, but I just found a couple of interviews, one from Zoe Keating (https://www.innerviews.org/inner/zoekeating.html) and one from Melora (https://www.popmatters.com/130487-20-questions-melora-creagor-of-rasputina-2496143759.html) where they both mention they play cellos made by the luthier Robert Brewer Young! Not sure if it's worth putting in the article or not, considering both interviews are from 2010, and I'm not sure if they both played his cellos while they were both in the band... Zoe Keating[edit]

Zoe Keating is no longer part of the current lineup. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ohjeeztower (talkcontribs) .

I saw that on the Zoe Keating page, but forums aren't really appropriate citations. I am currently looking for something official. (Oh, and please remember to sign your comments with 4 tides). Tartan 16:13, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I did see them in concert, and she wasn't there.Ohjeeztower 19:42, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Using your brain and eyes is not a valid reference for Wikipedia. Not even if it's been obvious for 9 years. 2001:A61:12FE:5101:A8DD:BD89:90A9:2F6A (talk) 12:27, 4 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up[edit]

I'm going to try and clean up the page and sort out current and past band members in the next week or so (since my last exam is tomorrow but I don't need to go back to school for another week). If I have time after I'll fill in the missing infoboxes and information about albums, but if I don't get it done next week I may have to leave some for the summer holidays. (This is just to let anyone know that it IS going to be done.) Tartan 16:31, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure if we need the paragraph in History referring to a few ephemeral members and how long they stayed when we also have the list of past members... seems like a redundancy. Maybe we could just mention that they've had a varying degree of members (refer to past members section), Julia left, and currently it's just Melora and Jonathon? Ansate 02:16, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the introduction needs a full rewrite. Something about the opening sentence "Rasputina is a band consisting mostly of cellists." feels barren and spartan.
How about, "Rasputina is an unconventional cello-driven rock band that started...."

Red marquis (talk) 14:25, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Listing the past & current members would make sense, I remember the Rasputina website had (early 2000s) a full picture album of their past & gone members - it could be considered a part of their identify, and an interesting oddity. 2001:A61:12FE:5101:A8DD:BD89:90A9:2F6A (talk) 12:29, 4 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Category Links[edit]

I decided to delete rasputina as part of the category "all female bands" as the drummer is a male and thus it is not an all female band. duh. -blakelove

Regarding the suggestion to merge the bio page with the Perilous World page: I think that is a bad idea. I just found out about this band from the Woodsongs show 451. I think having a short description of a recent album with a link to the album is a good idea. This is a great band and deserves to have a bio page.```

I am of the opinion that the "New Album" section SHOULD be merged with the Oh Perilous World entry. But that's just me. IAmAgentMunky (talk) 03:24, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia[edit]

Is there anyway to confirm if 'Rose K.' is about Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy or Rosemary Kennedy? Neither had Alzhiemers. -Drendiloon

Rose Marie Kennedy (Who was lobotomized) is referenced several times on the section of the official website that lists several live song introductions made by Melora. -porky 07:13, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Good, cause I changed it to Rosemary Kennedy last month and someone changed it back. -drendiloon

  • It was probably me, sorry about the mix up. Thanks for including the link, porky. --Etacar11 16:38, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

`

Well, this seems to have come up again. Somebody changed the page stating that the lyrics prove it isn't about Rose Marie Kennedy, and that it's about Rose Kennedy and her Alzhiemers. I have gone over the lyrics and disagree with that claim.

Additionally, I can find no reference whatsoever to show that Rose Kennedy ever had Alzhiemers, other than a blog by a Rasputina fan. I believe the idea that she did have this disease is due to confusion over Melora's joke "This used to be our Alzhiemers song. But that was such a downer that we changed it to our incontinence song" that introduces the song on A Radical Recital. The song is clearly about somebody with brain deterioration, and calling it an Alzhiemers song is probably just an easy way for Melora to get the point of her joke across.

Melora has also made the following jokes in concert (from the link I posted above):

"Is it wrong that Rose Kennedy lobotomized her daughter for some small acts of willfulness? Thankful are we to not be Kennedys."

"Were the Kennedys cursed with that kind of big teeth because of their misdeeds? Is it naive to hope for divine retribution for a woman who lobotomized her own daughter for some small act of romantic willfulness? I think not."

"Lobotomizing the retarded daughter, blah, blah. Those darn Kennedy's get away with everything!"

Melora is clearly interested in Rosemarie Kennedy and her lobotomy. And since Rosemarie is the only one of the two Rose K's in question who was actually ever in a state of deteriorated brain capacity, I still strongly believe the song to be about her. -porky (talk) 10:11, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does anyone know if Melora really wrote "The Mayor" about her mentally ill friends, because it could have been her twisted humor seeing as most people associate the president and his "Bush-isms" with seemingly low intelect. -Gunblader928 (talk) 20:50, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image[edit]

I'm removing the pic put in place by Kwanesum. It is an obsolete picture showing the old lineup of Rasputina. Those shown with Melora are Sarah Bowman and Jonathon TeBeest. I have tried to put up a new picture with the new line up of Catie D'Amica and Daniel DeJesus but the legalese obsessed a-hole admins in this place removed it and then sanctioned me. If anyone out there could put up a fair use image or if the photographer of the only promotional pic currently available of the new lineup, it will be greatly appreciated.

-Red marquis (talk) 13:45, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Don't think you can put up a fair use image of a currently active band. The rationale being that someone can take a free picture of them. Any picture is better than no picture, so if we have a free one it should be used somewhere in the article. Kwanesum (talk) 17:50, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, image:rasputina1.jpg was released under the GFDL after a direct request to the band that was archived in the OTRS. See the image page for details. You could follow a similar process to get a new pic. Kwanesum (talk) 17:55, 11 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Steampunk? No, im sorry. they are NOT steampunk. Please someone remove that despicable label. and furthermore steampunk is NOT a real genre in music. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.72.11.253 (talk) 04:06, 20 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I noteced the steampunk tag first visit and agree but am not familiar enough with the genre to hit the edit button. Simstick (talk) 07:28, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nobody who creates articles on music on Wikipedia seems to care about neutrality, or even understand that phrases like "renowned for" are not neutral, or at least need to be backed up by a citation. (And really, "renowned" are they? Gosh, I feel such a fool for having to look them up on Wikipedia!) But does the opening paragraph really need to look like a press release? 74.65.208.91 (talk) 11:58, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Break-Up Rumors[edit]

So I removed that line about Creager suggesting the band was close to breaking up because the source in question on their Facebook "About" page (not their website) is pretty vague. Whoever wrote it said, "When a certain roll of industrial-grade Saran Wrap runs out, Melora will disband the band." It's most likely a joke, and doesn't really signal an end to the band anytime soon.Cyrenaic (talk) 23:55, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
