The brige was permanently closed all the way across. The Marathon to Pigeon Key stretch was left open so people could get to Pigeon Key. Only the part from Pigeon Key to Little Duck Key has been closed since 1980, when the blue drawbridge over Moser Channel was removed, leaving the gap in the bridge just west of Pigeon Key. - Marc Averette 16:38, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Does anyone know the details of the gap blown up in True Lies? The missiles were apparently CG, but was the gap already there, or did they actually blow it up during filming? The gap is visible on aerials, and is definitely the place where the bridge was blown up in the movie, since the rise in the new bridge to go over the shipping channel can be seen in the movie, as well as the things that protect the bridge piers from ships.

The gap in the bridge was put there intentionally when the new bridge opened. For the movie, they built over the gap with a prop roadway and blew it up. They also used models in that sequence (the truck did not blow up on the bridge, I don't think -- that is a model shot). This is what I remember from the time when they were filming it, I live up the keys, didn't witness it but read articles at the time. DavidH 03:01, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Info box vs. article text[edit]

The bridge length in the info box conflicts with the length in the article text. Info box shows "Total length 10887.5 meters (6.765 miles)" while article text indicates "The total length of the new bridge is actually 35,862 ft (10,931 m) or 6.79 miles (10.93 km), and is shorter than the original." The info box length is consistent with the List of longest bridges in the world entry. LUxlii (talk) 21:29, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Appearances in Film and Television[edit]

I have found citations for several of the movie/television shows currently given in the "In fiction" section of the page. However, I could not find any evidence for the bridge making an appearance in some of these productions. The titles I could not find any evidence for are The Haunted Mansion, Mission Impossible III, I Am Number Four, and Leverage. I will remove these titles from the page for now, but if anybody wants to investigate and add verifiable titles back in with citations, the list will be here.
