Comment[edit]

The opening to this article is quite cute, but it sounds more like a promotional brochure than an encyclopedia article. It needs a more formal rewrite. -Aranel ("Sarah") 21:52, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Flagship?[edit]

I invite those interested in the question of whether or not WPBS serves as a "flagship" station for the Public Broadcasting Service, to join in the discussion at Talk:WNET on what constitutes a PBS flagship. -- SwissCelt 19:22, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Unique?[edit]

I doubt that WPBS is unique in the way mentioned. There must be many television stations for which the majority of viewers are located in the capitols of neighboring countries. -- D021317c 0:37, 25 May 2006 (EDT)

Ottawa is 45 miles/75 km due north of Ogdensburg, New York, but currently WPBS is the only US station to routinely be available in that market without the use of satellite feeds. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.102.80.212 (talk) 16:00, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Analog Will End?[edit]

WPBS has not turned off their analog towers yet as of March 18th. They may be waiting until the June deadline, or may have getten rejected by the FCC just like WWTI did. They arent moving their digital channels back, so they really have no reason to switch other than power savings, and they shut off analog at night, anyway. -- spunker88 20:36, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They turned off the analogue signals in April, citing cost and economic hardship (600kW peak analogue costs far more in power than 40kW digital, no small matter for a local non-profit educational group). Most likely it was a question of either going with the original date (2/17) or incurring significant FCC-inspired delays due to the need to notify viewers of impending analogue shutoff all over again. --66.102.80.212 (talk) 01:46, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:WPBS.gif[edit]

Image:WPBS.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
