Let's us use official names: Cieszyn and Cesky Tesin[edit]

The city is currently divided between Poland (Cieszyn) and the Czech Republic (Ceský Tešín):

I suggest to create two separate etries for the two cities, using their official names: Cieszyn and Ceský Tešín. And to tie them toghether by see also links.

When doing a Google search to determine what name is used in English, you must remember to do an "advanced search" that limits the results to only pages in English.

I think it makes sense to discuss the historical city and duchy in this article and use two articles (Cieszyn and Cesky Tesin) for the current places. Maximus Rex 18:57, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Since there are now 2 seperate cities with 2 different names and 1 historical city/duchy with a historical name, it makes sense to have 3 articles. London is not a valid example of a similar situation. Maximus Rex 22:58, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)

But Teschen was only an official state-name during part of the city's existence. So we should have the following articles:

Cieszyn - Duchy of Cieszyn times
Tesin - (until annexation by Austria)
Teschen - between the partitions and 1939
Cesky Tesin - between 1920 and 1938 and after 1945
Cieszyn - between 1920 and 1938 and after 1945.

Does it make any sense? Not really. I suggest we sticked to the name Cieszyn throughout the ages and explain the naming in a separate section, just like it's done in the Gdansk article. Halibutt 11:39, 5 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Okay, I'll split the articles onto two separate entities under actual names later this day. The name Teschen is absurd. One may argue that the English name is equal to the German one, but what is the English name of the Czech part of the city? Tschechische Teschen? Czech Teschen? or perhaps Cesky Teschen? Article split[edit]

I finally split the article onto several parts. I left all of the history together, while split the actual info about both towns. The article at Teschen was left as a disambiguation since several famous people were actually born in the town when it belonged to Austria-Hungary and we can't link those articles neither to Cieszyn nor to Cesky Tesin. I also added a navigational template to all of the sites related to our place.
