Phase equilibria is the equilibrium state achieved in a material system in which there are no chemical reactions taking place between various species. Because of the absence of chemical reactions amount of each species is conserved.

which I think is wrong - it should be

  1. singular
  2. physics rather than chemistry (i.e. solid, liquid, gas)
  3. note that chemical equilibrium does involve reactions, but that the reactions going one way are balanced by those going the other way
