Definition of album[edit]

The article Album says

The term record album ...is applied to any hard-pressed full length sound recording (including CD, Minidisc, and cassette.)

In addition to needing a hyphen, "full-length" is vague & deserves an estimate of the minimum length that nearly all, say 95% of all albums exceed. (Is it reasonable to try to come up with a maximum length of commercial albums in general distribution? Or at least an impressive example. Or the length of a packaged set of The Ring of the Nibelung or a packaged Complete Works album might be just as valuable.) --Jerzy 02:16, 2004 Jan 11 (UTC)

I find the meaning of the word Album as described in this article very hard to reconcile with how the word is actually used today. I consider an album simply to be a collection of songs released together as a package, in whatever medium—Trevor Caira 16:40, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Article split[edit]

Per the request that the article be split into multiple articles accessible from a disambiguation page, I have done just that. Feel free to fix anything that you think could have been done better. --taestell 20:33, July 18, 2005 (UTC)

  • According to the policy of creating disambiguation pages, you should have disambiguated all the links to this page. RedWolf 05:31, July 31, 2005 (UTC)
    • I have done several, but if you'll notice, there are about 500 links to this page. This obviously needs to be a group effort. --taestell 02:20, August 1, 2005 (UTC)
      • A lot of the linking pages don't actually link to album. It seems that album stubs are flagged as linking to album -- I'm trying to help repair the links, but I have no idea how to fix a link that isn't there... --bmills 18:37, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Requested Move[edit]

So far I've dab'd about 200 links this evening, moving them from pointing to album to album (music). Not one has needed to point to any of the other meanings. I suggest that this dab page should be moved to Album (disambiguation) and Album (music) should be moved here. Can't do it myself as I'm not an admin and the pages that both want to be moved to already exist. ~ VeledanTalk + new 20:02, 24 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Makes sense to me. It might be easier to make Album redirect to Album (music), though in that case any page linking to Album would go through a redirect. Wmahan. 20:06, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support redirecting Album to Album (music).--Commander Keane 17:29, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. I have found exactly one (count 'em, one) article that links here that doesn't refer to a music album: Philatelic investment, which refers to stamp albums. It's a crappy article, but that's besides the point; it does link here. --Russ Blau (talk) 17:43, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • No vote. The point may be moot - at the rate we're going, this will be done in another day, and once nothing links to it, it won't make much sense to move anything - especially since we now have racked up about 5000 articles pointing to album (music). -- BD2412 talk 17:53, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • Comment, I agree that album will be cleared soon, but I was thinking long term, I don't fancy clearing 2500 links from album next year (not that I did this year). --Commander Keane 18:05, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
      • I've put it on my own "check daily" list - it will stay clear. -- BD2412 talk 19:38, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
        • BD2412, I applaud your dedication but the point of the change would be that no-one would need to look after the page if we move Album (music) to Album and move the dab to Album (disambiguation). New links would automatically point to the right place 99.9% of the time. Surely this is one of the clearest cases there is for allocating a main meaning + having the dab page called (disambiguation)? ~ VeledanTalk + new 22:40, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, The following actions should be done: Album renamed to Album (disambiguation) (existing redirect page from Album (disambiguation) to Album can be deleted); and create a new redirect page from Album to Album (music). --- Bovineone 02:17, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Result: page moved. Eugene van der Pijll 21:05, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
