Request for Assistance with Account Deletion

Hello, I’m trying to delete my Wikipedia account but haven’t been able to find the necessary steps on the Help pages. Could someone please assist me with this? I’ve checked the Username policy and Help pages, but I couldn’t find any information on account deletion. Any guidance on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. There is no means of deleting an account, as legally all edits must be attributable to someone. You may just stop using and abandon your account. A vanishing may also be an option, see WP:VANISH. 331dot (talk) 00:06, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

My Page - Karamjeet K Dhillon

Hi a company has been working on my wiki page for best part of a year. I know the page exists because I asked an independent person to verify credentials and they couldn't get into it because it had password protection. How do I get a status update of a page? Or credentials so I can launch my own page. The company keep telling me that you are taking your time and recently needed to verify one more link and that you are ready to publish. As an adminstrator, I can view the deleted Draft:Karamjeet K Dhillon. It was a total piece of crap that had no hope of being accepted into this encyclopedia. To be frank, if you paid for this, you got conned. Demand your money back immediately or kiss your money goodbye. A large majority of paid Wikipedia services are liars and thieves. How to reopen closed AfD

This might be the wrong place to go to ask an adminstrative help question. I closed an AfD as keep and have been asked to reopen it. In 16 years as an admin, I've never previously been convinced to reopen one. However, almost all of the commenters on the AfD (which I closed on May 7) have turned out to be socks. It seems appropriate to reopen the AfD as requested. What is the proper procedure for that? I have hunted. Apparently I'm blind because I can't find it. How to add suggested languages

When I go to the top of the page and try to go to the same page on another Wikipedia, the only "suggested langauges" I get are Croatian and Italian. How do I add or remove those languages? I don't understand how to use the "add languages" button. When an article has pages in Bosnian or Serbian or Slovenian or even German or French I have to scroll all the way down the list to see them. Nobody I know even speaks Italian! Can I switch to the old language list? It was a lot more obvious and quicker. 89.172.73.191 (talk) 19:07, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

Help to resolve a dispute

There is a dispute at Transgender flag. My first thought was to seek an administrator but have since explored the dispute resolution mechanisms.

The minimal discussion on the talk page hasn't been productive because one editor isn't receptive. I have been unable to post a "Request dispute resolution" for some technical reason.

Humphrey Tribble, the guidance on dispute resolution has a WP:SEEKHELP section, which suggests posting a notice at a relevant wikiproject if talkpage discussion has not resolved the issue. Is someone allowed to ban you from their talk page?

I used an unsuitable template for warning a user today, see: User talk:Hob Gadling#May 2024. He was very harsh and said, "You are not welcome on my talk page. Please refrain from editing it in the future." Is someone allowed to ban you from their talk page? What if I have any legitimate questions for that editor in the future? It scared me, and I doubt I can sleep well tonight. I really didn't mean to annoy or offend that editor. I used that template because it looked more gentle and less harsh than the other template. But no, people can't actually ban you from their page, but you are strongly recommended to respect a request to stay away, and only post there if you must — for example, if you take somebody to WP:ANI, you must alert them to that fact. As for the template you used looking more gentle, I suggest you don't use any template without actually reading its text first. If you didn't notice the problems I have pointed out (on your talkpage), I'm not sure you did read it with any care, this time. This is covered by Commons:Photographs of identifiable people. This involves Commons which is separate from Wikipedia. Quote:

The subject, photographer, or uploader of an image may request that it be removed from Commons. The reasons for removal may include such things as "It causes embarrassment" or "It was published without my consent", etc. Generally, images are not removed simply because the subject does not like them, but administrators are normally sympathetic to removal requests if good reasons can be given. In any case you may address a removal request through the normal public review process of a deletion request. If discretion is required, a deletion request explaining this may also be sent privately through Commons:Contact us/Problems.

Categories - Italicized and referring to a section within an article

I am trying to add to a category, a fictional character who does not have their own article. But I have seen that you can link the article with said character in, and on the category page it comes up in italics. For example in the Category:Fictional surfers there is David Kawena who doesn't have his own article but is listed in this category and when you click on it, you are directed to List of Lilo & Stitch characters#David Kawena. However, what is puzzling for me is that in the category section of this article, Category:Fictional surfers does not appear. My question is how do I add a TV series article to a category page that appears as the name of the character in italics, but redirects to the character section within that article? David Kawena is a redirect page. To see the page itself, you can click on the link, scroll to the top of the page and click on the link in Redirected from David Kawena. Wikipedia:Redirect explains how to create a redirect, target it to a section of an article and add it to a category. TSventon (talk) 18:48, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

my Wikipedia account that i made in en.wikipedia doesn't work in ro.wikipedia

i tried to log in in ro.wikipedia but to add a source but it said "This account's or IP address's access to modifying pages has been stopped. This does not prevent you from reading the pages. According to Special:CentralAuth/KoreHades your account has not made any edits on ro.wikipedia, and your account is not blocked there. It's likely that your IP is blocked there. Meters (talk) 19:52, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

You can't get the IP unblocked. You would have to ask there, but that Wiki probably has has a procedure to allow logged in users to edit through an IP block, but given that you have almost no editing history you might not be able to convince an admin that you are not the same user as the blocked IP. Article not on Google search

Since I created Belle Meade Gun Club, I have created Blades Brown (golfer). The latter went to Google within 2 days, so I began to wonder why the weeks of delay on the former. @Eagledj: You are not autopatrolled so indexing of your article creations is not allowed automatically. Mike means you look like a good candidate if you apply. See WP:Autopatrolled#Obtaining the right. If the creator is not autopatrolled then it's unpredictable when or if an article will be reviewed by a user with the required right to allow indexing before 90 days. At top of page histories you can click "View logs for this page" to see that Belle Meade Gun Club was reviewed yesterday (today in some time zones) while Blades Brown (golfer) was reviewed 13 May. You can also use your browser to search the html source for "noindex". Neither article has it now but Belle Meade Gun Club had it when you first posted. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:15, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi! I've been working on an article for the album Where the Angels Fall, but I'm not entirely happy with the critical reception section. I haven't been able to find any English-language reviews of the album. Does anybody know where I'd be able to easily access and search through digital versions of physical music magazines? the deletion log says the following: "Expired PROD, concern was: Non-notable person who fails to meet WP:GNG. Only claim to notability presented is that he coached a high school tennis team. No sources found in a Google search and almost everything presented in this article was gathered from an obituary." MagicalPrince863, no amount of editing can create notability where it does not exist. He was a school teacher and high school tennis coach who sadly died at 35. According to WP:NPERSON, For people, the person who is the topic of a biographical article should be "worthy of notice" or "note"—that is, "remarkable" or "significant, interesting, or unusual enough to deserve attention or to be recorded" within Wikipedia as a written account of that person's life. This person was not a university professor with major research accomplishments.This person did not coach world class tennis players. Why is this table considered a lint error?

I saw "Multiline table in list" in the page information when the following wikitext was added to the page:

* <table><tr><td><math>y = a x + b</math></td></tr></table>

I'd guess because the Mediawiki preprocessor interprets whatever is to the right of a line-initial asterisk as an attempt at a list item (<li>Like this</li>). But AFAIK (X)HTML doesn't let you put block entities within list items. Additionally, a single-cell table is a somewhat bizarre notion. I was trying to improve {{NumBlk}} and encountered the lint error. So I tried to simplify the template gradually while preserving the lint error. The wikitext in this question is the simplest one I could get. That’s why a trivial, single-cell table exists. (there was other cells in the table before) The lint error is called "Multiline table in list", but obviously it's a single-line table in my case. ...could it be considered a bug of the Linter extension or the preprocessor you've mentioned ?

My goal is to enable prepending asterisk to {{NumBlk}} calls without causing any errors, such as:

* {{NumBlk||<math>y = a x + b</math>|Eq. 3}}

@Justin545 {{Numbered block}} has a large section on warnings about placing the template in tables. It also has other information about using the template within lists. In particular, Template:Numbered block § Unordered list contains examples using CSS. Other templates such as {{bulleted list}} might be used to simplify the HTML. Thank you for the {{bulleted list}} solution. Fixing the potential bug of the extension or preprocessor may be too aggressive to fulfil within a short period of time. AI-generated images

I need some advice on use of AI images. The articles David Copperfield and Great Expectations have recently had images added (and removed) which have been generated using AI, and are classed as 'own work' by the author. See those articles' talk pages. I have a personal objection to them on aesthetic grounds, but WP policies do not seem to consider that as a reason to object. However, a more important point is whether WP has policies which are keeping up with AI. In particular, is an editor now permitted to add their own original AI-generated art? Original text is not permitted, since it is usually classified as original research. The only policies I can find which are relevant are MOS:PERTINENCE, WP:IMGCONTENT,and WP:Image use policy, which do not help much.

Are there policies I have missed? Is there a discussion or a working group thinking about this? Without a policy, it seems WP could rapidly be flooded with original, AI-generated images, with no grounds to object. Masato.harada (talk) 09:39, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

I believe that there's a stronger objection than any mentioned above to the recent additions to the Dickens articles. That is that they're works of fiction, made up by the creator and his AI. This is an encyclopedia, not a place for publishing works of fiction. Pictures created during Dickens' lifetime and with his approval qualify as part of his work; pictures created more than a century later don't. Maproom (talk) 15:21, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

It is also worth noting that copyright law concerning AI-generated artwork is far from clear, may vary from one jurisdiction to another, and seems to be dependent at least in part on the copyright status of data the AI was trained on. It is entirely possible for AI to generate derivative works in breach of copyright. Coverage of person recently deceased through hunger strike action (currently hypothetical)

I am currently working on an article concerning a climate hunger strike in Berlin, Germany, with five strikers at present. First a disclaimer: I am not involved in the hunger strike, any associated organizations, the planning of events, media and social media liaison, those participating, or anything else related — besides being an observer with a camera and some language skills who happens to live in Berlin. I have nonetheless chatted to strike participants and organizers when taking photographs and video, mostly to seek their permissions for publication.

My question is hypothetical at this juncture. Are there Wikipedia policies about appropriate editing in the event that one of the hunger strikers does succumb to their self‑starvation? Very long list article advice

Hello. Today I found the List of libraries in Australia. Among other issues, for some states it lists not only every library, but every single library sub-branch, which I feel counts as unnecessarily excessive per MOS:LONGSEQ. Most other library lists by country are smaller. After working on the article a bit (the Queensland public library section), I've realised even if I remove all the sub-branches, it will still be a very long list as there are libraries missing.

The options I can see are:

• Leave only items that have a Wikipedia article (I don't like this one as there seem to be notable ones without articles and I think the list may encourage articles to be made)
• Split the list into by state (i.e. "Libraries in South Australia")
• Split the libraries by type (i.e. Public Libraries in Australia")

Reinstalling Wikipedia app.

Dark Mode?

I logged on to Wikipedia this morning and the main page was on dark mode, which I thought was being developed and hadn't come out yet. Some pages are normal and some pages are dark.

Does anyone know why.

If you are using Vector 2022 skin, there is a dark mode beta trial going on right now, which is enabled through the "Beta features" tab in your preferences page (specifically, the "Accessibility for Reading" option). It's supposed to be opt-in though, so I'm not sure how yours got it enabled from the start. — AP 499D25 (talk) 13:27, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Look for an 'Appearance' menu at the right sidebar, the option to enable/disable it should be under "color" there. There's also an 'automatic' option which by the sounds of it is what's currently set. — AP 499D25 (talk) 13:52, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Request to see text of a deleted article

Hiya! I'm a user from Norwegian Bokmål Wikipedia currently writing an article about the Norwegian term skeiv, equivalent to the English term queer, and I see that there is a deleted article (presumably because it was written in a foreign language) here on English Wikipedia. I am curious if there is a way I can see the full text of this deleted article, simply to see if there's anything I can use in this new article on Norwegian Bokmål Wikipedia, or if that's entirely out of the question. I previously had a peek at Wikipedia:REFUND, but I am not interested in having the article undeleted as a whole. I simply want to look at its previous contents. Is that possible? WP:COMPSOCK suggests posting a note on the user page of each account indicating that they are alternative accounts for the same person. That should be fine even if the old account was not compromised. TSventon (talk) 18:19, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

DJVU help needed

I want to add this Commons file to Xia Ji but have never dealt with DJVU formatting. Is it possible to add a caption? Thanks, ~~~~

@Keahapana: I'm not aware of any differences between the formatting of DjVu and other files, apart form DjVu being a multipage format so you can specify the page number with |page= as you already did (PDF works the same). |frameless does not allow a displayed caption in the image syntax. The normal way to display images is |thumb. This image already has an internal border so thumb doesn't look so good but that's unrelated to being a DjVu file. {{Plain image with caption}} uses frameless and adds a caption outside the image syntax but it doesn't support |page= so you get the front page. I have shown a hack which adds |page=93 to the template output. It may be too hacky for mainspace use but I could add a proper page option to {{Plain image with caption}} if you want. The caption appears to be far below the image but it's actually not, the image just includes whitespace at the bottom. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:24, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
