kinvara vs kinvarra

It is generally accepted that the proper name for the village is kinvara and not kinvarra, AFAIK the only place where the name appears spelled with two r's is on the road sign visible on the road from galway. Everyone in the village spells it kinvara. Cavetroll 18:53, 22 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Use of Irish or Anglicised forms

• My tuppence worth: Kinvara is not in the Gaeltacht, so both forms are equally valid. However, this is en.wikipedia and so the anglicised forms are to be preferred in that context. Adding the Irish version is useful if it explains how the Anglicised versiion came to be, but not otherwise. So Cinn Mhara is useful, Loch Lurgain is not. Conversely, in ga.wikipedia, the Irish forms should have precedence and the anglicised forms mentioned incidentally, if at all. --Red King 29 June 2005 17:57 (UTC)

Actually, we've kind of gotten to a consensus. Read Mac Duach's talk page. This is already Wikipedia policy. I wouldn't call it an edit war. Cuckoo Fleadh celebrates the old Irish festival of Bealtaine?

Far be it from me to question those with a greater knowledge but being in Kinvara at the time of the first cuckoo fleadh i seem to remember the timing was to do with the introduction of the new European "labour day" bank holiday and nothing to do with the timing of any ancient festival. Had labour day been on the 1st of June so the festival would be too. I think this comment is inaccurate and an attempt to spin the history backwards on what really is nothing more than a happy coincidence.Njg (talk) 23:35, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Lewis's Topographical dictionary

The article claims that Dún Guaire was built by Éamonn Ó hEidhin and not by Ruaidhrí Mór Dearg Ó Seachnasaigh as given by Lewis's Topographical dictionary. So we have a good citation for Ruaidhrí Mór Dearg Ó Seachnasaigh and no citation for Éamonn Ó hEidhin. If this is to stand, it needs a very good citation. Citations

Wikipedia depends critically on citations to demonstrate verifiability. "Common knowledge", "Everybody knows" is not good enough. All the material in the History section of this article can surely be supported by citations from a good local history book. All we need is the name of the book, its ISBN, and the relevant page. If you don't know how to format it nicely, don't worry, just put it in and someone will come along and prettify it. After each sentence for which have a citaton you just begin with <ref> then your reference, then a </ref> to finish, then start the next sentence of the body text. That will make your citations pop up automatically in the References section.

I can see that the person who has been editing this article does so from a terminal at NUIG. Well there is not much excuse then, all the books you need are in the college library. --Red King (talk) 21:08, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
