My Dodge Van engine is a 360 CU (1986) and the engine is hard to start after several days. Once running, it runs great. My Mechanic says the Carb bowl is porous and the gas leaks out over several days. Can this be fixed? And what is needed?

Is the carb bowl made of aluminium like most of them usually are? In which case I doubt it's porous. In fact this sounds like b/s. It's possible that there is an airleak or something that is causing the fuel to evaporate over a few days, or maybe the system is designed so it gradually drains back into the tank - many older designs do this. There might not be much you can do about it - modern fuel injection systems use a high pressure fuel pump to pressurise the whole system as soon as the ignition is turned on, and this helps give instant starting. Older systems that have mechanical low pressure fuel pumps and carburettors rarely give instant starting. I guess you could investigate whether a one-way non-return valve could be put in the fuel line, but even that might not help. I suppose the question is, "what did it do when it was new?".
