Source of Vivekananda's speech in Chicago[edit]

https://www.dailyo.in/politics/vivekananda-never-said-sisters-and-brothers-of-america-obama-siri-fort-speech-chicago-a-chorus-of-faith-1711 mentions the book which archived all speeches at the Chicago conference. I do not know any other sources that might be reliable. but the book does not mention any standing ovation and even the words 'brothers and sisters' were not spoken by Vivekananda.

myth started from a letter Vivekananda himself wrote to Alasinga Perumal (his follower): https://www.cuttingthechai.com/2017/09/7520/did-vivekananda-say-sisters-and-brothers-of-america-fact-checking-a-fact-check/. this article also mentions another myth Vivekananda wrote about American newspapers reporting that his speech was a success.

Is there any evidence to the contrary? Onsoc36 (talk) 15:33, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In Barrow's two volume "The Parliament of Religions", which was published in 1893 by the organizers of the gathering, reports each of the major speeches verbatim, and sometimes mentions the audience reaction. On page 102 of Volume One in the section about the first day speeches, "Swami Vivekananda of Bombay, India was next introduced. When Mr. Vivekananda addressed the audience as 'sisters and brothers of America,' there arose a peal of applause that lasted for several minutes." Ellis408 (talk) 04:50, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Vivekananda's voice[edit]

According to scholars, there's no voice recording of Swami Vivekananda available anywhere. All the voice recordings in his name are done by someone else. This was clarified by the Ramakrishna order in their official website here[1]. Rim sim (talk) 15:38, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
