Joe
[edit]Who keeps changing Joe's name to "Thomas"? True, Joe Thomas is his full name, but his artistic name is "Joe." One word, that's all, like Cher or Ashanti.
It would be like calling Madonna "Ciccone" or "Ritchie." I'm reverting his name back to Joe.
- He was mentioned in the text as "Joe Thomas", and then (as with all these pop articles) he was referred to by his Christian name; that's why I changed it. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 18:18, 18 August 2005 (UTC)
- That's why you should DO YOUR RESEARCH before changing these items blindly. It would save all of us (and you) a lot of time with reverts. Musiclover 10:00, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
As I've said elesewhere, if editors would write correctly in the first place, not fan-gushing Christian names everywhere, then I'd not have made the mistake. And no, it's not up to me to do research every time I make a minor correction like this; it's up to all editors not to be so confrontational when someone comes along and makes a good-faith editing mistake. When I started the Sisyphean task of cleaning up all these pop-music articles, I didn't leave comments or edit-summaries accusing the original editors of bad-faith editing, of not bothering to read the MoS, etc. — I just made the changes. When a few editors started blindly (and often aggressively) reverting my corrections, I at first tried polite explanations rather than shouting at them to do their research. Is it that teeny-pop engenders this sort of aggression in its fans, or that it's aggressive teens who become fans? --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:42, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
- It's okay, you didn't know. Everybody makes mistakes. "Joe" is the singer's stage name, and he should never have been referred ot as "Joe Thomas" here in the first place (someone probably just forgot to pipe the link). --FuriousFreddy 14:29, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
- You did it in good faith, Mel. My apologies if that sounded like a rant; your work here is appreciated. Musiclover 15:09, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
- My apologies in return; I was getting too ratty, and needed to go and watch the cricket for a while (which was well worth it...). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 17:17, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
Good compromise. —Hollow Wilerding 01:44, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
After stating that Judge Christine Snyder ruled for Carey in a summary judgment, it should be included that the Ninth Circuit, in a decision by Judge Canby, reversed summary judgment, holding that Judge Snyder ought to have allowed for Plaintiff Seth Swirsky [writer of Xscape's song] to have had his expert witness go before the jury.

- The article is misleading in trying to indicate the lawsuit was thrown out, however, it was reinstated and Carey paid a settlement. Links are available with Swisky VS Carey 2004. Once I can find a link of a settlement , I will rewrite the article myself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.34.9.236 (talk) 05:30, 1 March 2013 (UTC)
- I keep forgetting to sign my posts...
Finally, links of reinstatement and a settlement:
