In principle, I think such a category would be a good idea. To make this work well, it would probably be best to first create separate categories for Babenberg and HabsburgRulers of Austria, so that all of the Habsburg ones can be subcategorized at once. I suggest that the non-ruling folks should be in a separate subcategory. I'll work on this when I have time. Martg76 20:23, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)
As the creator of the category, I think not. I created it in order to categorize non-ruling members of Austrian ruling houses for the time while there was a monarchy. The idea was to get them out of Category:Austrian history. Thus, Otto von Habsburg is only included because he was born before 1918, whereas I wouldn't want to include his son Karl Habsburg if he had a page. Of course, this use of the category is up to discussion. Martg76 04:17, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I am wondering if Archduke Albert VII should not be moved to the list of ruling Austrian royalty. Not only did he rule the Habsburg Netherlands jointly with his wife the Infanta Isabella Clara Eugenia as sovereigns from 1598 until 1621, he also succeeded his brother Emperor Matthias as ruling Archduke of Upper and Lower Austria in 1619. He did homage for these two principalities and as head of the House of Habsburg in October 1620, shortly before ceding his titles to Emperor Ferdinand II. Richardot 12:24, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
