19th century[edit]
- 1830 – Ground is broken in Charleston, South Carolina, for the first railroad to use steam locomotives in South Carolina.
- 1871 – The government of Victoria, Australia, reopens Essendon railway station, Melbourne, for service.[1]
- 1882 – The first train from Cincinnati, on the Cincinnati Northern Railway, departs for Dayton, Ohio.
- 1899 – Hull Electric purchases the Aylmer–Hull, Quebec line which it had been operating under a lease agreement from Canadian Pacific Railway.[2]
20th century[edit]
- 1994 – Chicago Transit Authority closes the Chicago "L" Green Line for a linewide renovation and rehabilitation project.
21st century[edit]
- 2003 – Following its purchase of the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad and its subsidiaries, operations begin on the Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway in New England, Quebec and New Brunswick.[3]
