Anamudi = "Elephant hair"??[edit]

Someone correct me if I am wrong. Doesn't mudi in malayalam also has a meaning 'mountain'. Shouldn't the literal translation be Elephant hill or Elephant mountain than 'Elephant hair' (this sounds absurd!)

you are right by means of tamil/malayalam word. and even if possible wiki should write "Popullarly Known as".
Some Reason behind his name "Anamudi or Elephant Head" : his peaks looks like and elephant head top part so locally people have given this name (as far as my knowledge and experience). And From far trees on peak looks like hair

This talk is probably very old. Still I feel it's late is better than later.

Totally agree to this. Mudi is usually a synonym for mountains. I also think origin of the usage mudi could've been referring to the top of a place as compared that to the top of a person would be their hair, over their head. Maybe this was a age-old usage which caught along and people forgot the origin. It seems the usage has more of a tamil base. There's another peak in Ernakulam called Ayyappanmudi, so it's like Ayyappan mala (not sabarimala :) and not the hair.

If not corrected, these errors will stand as references which will turn out to be the standards in future. Maybe mudi itself evolved so. LinsonJames (talk) 06:31, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Images purporting to be of Anamudi[edit]

A lot of the images purporting to be of Anamudi from Eravikulam National Park are actually not of Anamudi, but of some satellite peaks near Anamudi. Truth is, one cannot see Anamudi from the section of the Eravikulam National Park where tourists are allowed. You need to go further towards Rajamala towards the other side of the park to be able to see Anamudi peak from a westerly viewpoint. Otherwise you need to go some distance along the Munnar-Gundumalai road to be able to see Anamudi from the south-east.

Part of the confusion is because there are satellite peaks of Anamudi that feel, and in fact are, very high. Anamudi is situated behind these high peaks and tends to be hidden behind them. There are very few stretches of road from where Anamudi is clearly visible without other high peaks getting in the way. Captioning such images as Anamudi when they are not would be misleading. Weather Data is Clearly Wrong[edit]

I've tried to look at the attached sources for the climate table and haven't been able to find where the numbers actually come from. The record low temperatures at least are clearly incorrect, as there is no way the temperature has ever dipped below freezing in August, and the winter temperatures are far, far lower than possible for the area, regardless of if the information is for the summit or surrounding area.
