All-time droughts[edit]

Would there be a list of all-time droughts for the league? Like, who had the longest drought ever before they won the championship again? This list is just of each teams current droughts. Eric 03:10, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cities awaiting their first NBA championship[edit]

If we count the first incarnation of the Nuggets, and also make mention of the OKC-Seattle dynamic, shouldn't we count the St. Louis incarnation of the Hawks? The St. Louis Hawks won it all back in 1958. Atari2 (talk) 07:23, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Active droughts[edit]

All teams and years need to be listed. If not, it appears as though the teams were omitted. Also, there are many people who do not know all the team names and by not having a complete list of teams, it is not a good reference for non NBA followers.Spparky (talk) 04:26, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Without all teams listed, how does the reader know if is an omission --- look at NFL drought list. It is complete with with all teams. You know there are no omissions or incomplete possibilities with all teams listed. Besides if a team is not in a drought, that should be noted instead of the reader having to either guess or have to find another article to find the answer.Spparky (talk) 23:53, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in List of NBA franchise post-season droughts[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of NBA franchise post-season droughts's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Clarification on when to Modify an Active Drought[edit]

For 12 of the 13 lists currently presented in this article, droughts are measured by number of complete seasons. The duration of inactive droughts are both fixed and essentially indisputable. The duration of active droughts are obviously not fixed, but will increase over time. There are just two things that can affect an active drought:

The team eventually attains the drought's missing achievement.
Another fruitless season comes to an end (at least for the team in question).

In the first case, the drought is no longer active, and must therefore be removed from every list of active droughts.
In the second case, the duration of the active drought is incremented by one season.

I am sure all of that is obvious. I thought it equally obvious that the duration of any drought will never decrease. On April 29, 2017, the Golden State Warriors' active drought without winning the NBA Championship Title was incremented from one to two seasons. But as of June 10, 2017, the Golden State Warriors season has not yet ended; it is not yet known if they will win the 2016-17 NBA Championship Title. If they do win it, then their Title drought will become inactive and fixed at one season (they didn't win it last year, but they won it the year before that). This seems to contravene the rule that the duration of a drought will never decrease. The problem isn't with the rule; it is with a premature edit (by an otherwise diligent and scrupulous editor) that apparently assumed they wouldn't win the Title this season, and incremented the duration accordingly. I am reverting that particular drought back to its current duration (one complete season so far). But beyond this individual reversion, this is probably worth reiterating:

Active droughts can only be changed by two events:

If the missing achievement is attained, then the drought ceases to be active, and its duration becomes fixed for ever.
If the achievement becomes impossible in the current season, then its duration increases by one season.

This clarification brings some formality to the process, but I think it also simplifies the task of maintaining these lists.
