Primates category rework[edit]

After some good discussion on the talk for WP:PRIM with User:Marskell, I've begun work on cleaning up category:Early hominids. Please come to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Primates/category rework to weigh in your opinion on what direction to take. - UtherSRG (talk) 13:13, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you support Monicasdude?[edit]

You have been endorsing statements in support of Monicasdude on the current RfC. Do you care to give a few reasons for your views? Perhaps an Outside View of your own on the RfC would help allay suspicions that you've simply been recruited to help him out. JDG 21:50, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Other than to say that I have never communicated with Mdude, I'll avoid commenting on the matter here. I will however weigh up doing an Outside View. I consider myself too novice for this sort of thing, but if you feel that my two cents (not an exact chronology!!) is worthwhile I may contribute. I've read the whole talk page btw. --Sambostock 22:16, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I thank you for your constructive comments on this RfC (not all of which I agree with, of course). While I don't see anything useful in debating individual points in general at this time, I would like to point out that one comment is factually off-target: "Mdude does seem to have been unconstructive by not suggesting his own wording (at least, as far as I can see, in talk)." I did propose alternative language (as suggest by user:Lulu, as a concluding statement to the discussion of Dylan's strictly evangelical phase [1], but user: Lulu deleted it (four times in 45 minutes, a gross 3RR violation that the intervening admin refused to act on!)

Dylan composed and recorded explicitly Christian songs over the course of these three albums recorded between 1979 and 1981. He has recorded religious songs regularly since that time, from "Lord Protect My Child" on Infidels through "Ring Them Bells" on Oh Mercy to a newly rewritten version of "Gonna Change My Way Of Thinking" in a 2003 duet with Mavis Staples; and several of his later compositions, suc as "Jokerman," "What Good Am I," and "Not Dark Yet" are often viewed as subtler extensions of his religious themes. He continues to perform his explicitly Christian songs like "Gotta Serve Somebody" and "I Believe In You" regularly in concert, and added an assortment of gospel standards, like "Rock Of Ages," "I Am The Man Thomas," and "Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior," to his concert repertoire in the later 1990s. As Clinton Heylin, Dylan's best-known biographer wrote in Behind The Shades Revisited, "[The] dozen or so covers added to his repertoire in 1999 testify to both a world-weary yearning for release and an abiding faith in Christ's promise of redemption."

My overall preference would be that the article not include a global statement like this, but comment on the involved matters at the appropriate points in a fuller discussion of Dylan's later career, which is why I initially deleted the (factually inaccurate) conclusory statement that set off this dispute. FWIW Mdude, I'm in agreement with you about the Christian issue. I don't know why you flat-out refuse to recognize that FA status is more than somebody putting a tag on a page. It was a real vote and the FA version did have some virtues that are now lost (I'm not complimenting myself here-- it was basically GWO's work). You were new at the time. If you'd just admit you were a bit hasty with the big overhaul and that you're willing to discuss stuff before committing big changes, we could drop this nonsense and get on with making it a great article. Nobody would even be around half the time when you have a large change to make. I'm not saying you have to post on Talk that you have a big change and then wait indefinitely for someone to discuss it with. If no one responds in, say, 36 hours then you go right ahead... We're both stubborn. I think I've demonstrated to you that I'm not someone you can just ignore. The olive branch is out. Do you take it?.. BTW Sambostock, thanks for your input on the RfC. Of course I also am in strong disagreement with some of your points, but your comments give us a valuable perspective. JDG 05:43, 17 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, that's the reply (silence) I expected. Just thought I'd give it one last shot. It's damn the torpedoes time now my friend. JDG 01:57, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Announcement[edit]

Hello! I'm The Arbiter, one of the coordinators for WikiProject Zoo. I am proud to announce the launch of a new portal: Portal:Zoos and Aquariums! ZooPro, ZooFari, and I worked hard to create a new portal for information on zoos, aquariums, and the associated projects and articles on Wikipedia. If you could head on over, take a look at our work, and maybe learn some more about zoos and Wikiproject Zoo, it would be great! Cheers and Happy Editing!

Science lovers wanted![edit]

Science lovers wanted!
Hi! I'm serving as the wikipedian-in-residence at the Smithsonian Institution Archives until June! One of my goals as resident, is to work with Wikipedians and staff to improve content on Wikipedia about people who have collections held in the Archives - most of these are scientists who held roles within the Smithsonian and/or federal government. I thought you might like to participate since you are interested in the sciences! Sign up to participate here and dive into articles needing expansion and creation on our to-do list. Feel free to make a request for images or materials at the request page, and of course, if you share your successes at the outcomes page you will receive the SIA barnstar! Thanks for your interest, and I look forward to your participation! Sarah (talk) 21:35, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
