From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

English as a lingua franca for Europe was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was CONSENSUS NOT REACHED

Seems to be original research about the possible difficulties of learning English for speakers of other European languages. Nohat 21:40, 27 Oct 2004 (UTC)

  • May be original research/essay. Needs references, preferable proper literature. Merge+redirect with English language. Dunc| 21:24, 27 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • May be valid, may not be. It is reportage, rather than proposal, so, if it were referenced, it would be a keep. List on Clean Up and pray for a wise and knowledgeable editor with a great deal of free time to provide these things. (Hope an official demotic doesn't take place. Those things are always failures.) • Language, as with so many other living processes, cannot be effectively regulated by any amount of legislation. English has already replaced many languages around the world, and if it is to replace any other languages elsewhere, it simply will. Therefore, IMO, the entire point of this article, while debatable at great length (the French come to mind), is ultimately baseless. Delete. Fire Star 05:47, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. Valid and interesting topic, but if it is not properly cleaned up and referenced in a few months it should probably be relisted on vfd. Passw0rd 14:40, 31 Oct 2004 (UTC)
  • As a sometime teacher of English in continental Europe, I simply think that most of this is just inaccurate, so Delete, unless entirely new content is written.
