This is a page to give a general guideline for creating pages about the various NHL Entry Drafts (NHL Amateur Draft prior to 1979).
Introduction[edit]
The first paragraph should lead with the year, date, and where it was held. Example: The 1963 NHL Amateur Draft was held on June 5 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
This first major section should also include any interesting information or statistics about the draft.
Draft list[edit]
The second major section is a listing of the people drafted.
- The player's name should be a link only if they meet notability guidelines. Use your discretion and common sense regarding this.
- The player positions should be spelled out and not abbreviated with the first occurrence of that position linked.

- Nationality is considered the players pace of birth using the Flag Template. The flag used should be that which was in use the year the draft took place. This data should also be accurate for the time the draft occurred. So David Volek (drafted 1984) and Radek Dvorak (drafted 1995), both from what is now the Czech Republic, have "Czechoslovakia" and "Czech Republic" respectively given as their nationalities.
- Team, club, and league articles should also be linked first occurrence only and once each page.
List format[edit]
- The list should include the head == Selections by round ==
- The list should include a header for each round (e.g. === Round one === === Round two === etc).
- Each round of the list should be referenced.
- If the listing is incomplete include the template {{Hockey Draft info missing}}.
