Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Assyrians
List of Assyrians was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was to keep. Another apparently lost/orphaned VfD nom, as the tag was added November 18, but it doesn't seem to have ever been placed on the main VfD page--also not on "old". Procedural/weak keep--a few articles link to it, we have precedents like List of Italians, and it has improved since it was tagged. Niteowlneils 20:44, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete. A list of all Assyrians is neither useful nor possible. (If the intent is not to list 'all' Assyrians, then a better article title needs to be found.) CB Droege 18:54, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- We have lists of people from most other major countries/civilizations. Weak keep. --Idont Havaname 21:26, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep: valid list topic. At least with this one, we don't have to worry about the size of the list doubling every six months. Wile E. Heresiarch 21:37, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Would a better article title be "List of Assyrians with Wikipedia articles"? Or is that implied? —[[User:Radman1|RaD Man (talk)]] 21:50, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. It is always implied that those listed are notable, and if so, they are potentially topics for articles. The title is fine. The article itself could helpfully note that Assyrian has the dual meaning, ancient and modern. Charles Matthews 22:10, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. There are many lists like this. If I were out to learn about Assyria, it would be one of the first places I would look. The title is probably the best available: "List of Assyrians with Wikipedia articles" would be self-reference and wouldn't fork well, "List of notable Assyrians" I could live with but might carry POV risks. - Comment: One has to decide whether this list should list ancient Assyrians or modern Assyrians. Doing both promotes a pseudohistorical and nationalistic POV, and anybody voting to keep it, needs to address that issue. / up+land 23:28, 27 Nov 2004 (UTC) (Edited 08:11, 28 Nov 2004 (UTC))
- Delete, not useful. --fvw* 01:16, 2004 Nov 28 (UTC)

- Keep' but split into list of ancient assyrians and list of modern assyrians Kappa 15:26, 28 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Precedent already established, and it keeps people from adding the lists to the main ethnicity pages. - Mustafaa 03:23, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)
