Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RfPP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    The Lorax (film)

Reason: You can give this article some pending changes protection. I see a persistent amount of inappropriate humorous edits to this article (it is likely to be vandalism, but I am not sure) by IP editors, but I doubt that it is enough for semi-protection.

I do not even know if it is protected or not, since when I add the template for a protection icon/banner, it shows me nothing, not even if the article has pending changes protection.

The last time it was protected was from 18 May 2023 to 18 August 2023, and it could have had pending changes protection either in the meantime or after the expiration of the semi-protection. I do not know.

In summary, to curb current disruptive editing by IP editors, I think pending changes protection (to review all edits by new and unregistered users before they are visible to everyone) should be applied to reduce the need to block IP addresses (and many different addresses are involved there too). Declined – No changes to the current protection level are required at this point in time. The article is already pending-changes protected (you cam see this via "view history", and then "view logs for this page". Lectonar (talk) 12:23, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Okay. Thank you. CarlFilip19 (talk) 12:24, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Hit Me Hard and Soft

Reason: It is imperative to protect the page for the new album Hit Me Hard and Soft by American singer and Grammy-winning artist Billie Eilish due to the numerous edits coming from anonymous/unsigned accounts with biased editorial and unreliable sources. The page is currently unprotected, allowing anyone to freely edit it. Hence, protection for this page is essential in the upcoming months.. Newpicarchive (talk) 13:43, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Frequently vandalised by IP editors over the past several weeks. — AP 499D25 (talk) 14:06, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    First Chechen War

Reason: Continuous biased editing by rolling IPs with no sources/discussion. Per discussion: Talk:First_Chechen_War#This_article_is_impossible GreenC 14:39, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent vandalism and addition of unsourced information to BLP following speculation in press. Egghead06 (talk) 15:12, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Tel al-Sultan airstrikes

Reason: I'm requesting extended confirmation protection for the page. This is a current event receiving widespread coverage, as part of the Israel-Hamas War, which is a highly contentious topic. JohnAdams1800 (talk) 15:15, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Mister Supranational 2024

Reason: Recent sockpuppetry and IP interference with efforts to make articles conform to WP quality standards regarding formatting and sourcing. Reversion without stated rationale. Pages covered by WP:GS/PAGEANTS community sanctions. ☆ Bri (talk) 15:36, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Tel al-Sultan massacre

Reason: Requesting move protection. Per WP:TITLECHANGES we should default to the original name until conensus is reached. Vandals have moved it a couple times against that policy to "Tel al-Sultan airstrikes". Dylanvt (talk) 15:38, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose: The article title would violate NPOV. I have been moving the title back to Tel al-Sultan airstrikes. JohnAdams1800 (talk) 15:40, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Template:Her

Reason: To create a redirect to Template:Their, similar to the existence of Template:His. — GMH Melbourne (talk) 03:35, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Whataboutism

Reason: The current protection status of the page limits the ability of a broader range of contributors to edit and improve its content. This restriction is particularly concerning given the page's apparent lack of political neutrality.

The article on "Whataboutism" exhibits a significant bias, predominantly reflecting a Western perspective. This bias skews the representation of whataboutism, often highlighting its use in contexts that criticize non-Western entities while downplaying or ignoring similar tactics employed by Western actors. This selective representation not only undermines the article's objectivity but also contravenes Wikipedia's core principle of maintaining a neutral point of view.

Allowing more contributors to participate in editing this page can facilitate a more balanced and comprehensive discussion. By reducing the protection level, we can ensure that diverse perspectives are represented, thereby enhancing the article's credibility and adherence to Wikipedia's standards of neutrality.

Thank you for considering this request. Your attention to ensuring the neutrality and accuracy of Wikipedia's content is greatly appreciated. 147.32.27.11 (talk) 14:29, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not unprotected – Please use an edit request to request specific changes to be made to the protected page. Talk:Whataboutism is not protected. Favonian (talk) 15:06, 27 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
