ye recently exclaimed only being called “ye” and that the name “kanye west” was a slave name. my thinking is that spotify and apple music are gonna refer to him as ye now instead of kanye west which brings up the question wether or not the article name should be called “Ye (musician)” or somethinh like that instead of “Kanye West” Purpetic (talk) 20:11, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Purpetic and Muboshgu: I've noticed that Ye's artist moniker on platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube is still Kanye West, and his latest 2024 albums were released as Kanye West. So Ye is his legal name and Kanye West is still is artist moniker? Israell (talk) 18:14, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ye should be referred to as "Ye". i've read through the talkpage archives and the arguments used to prevent moving this to its correct title are unpersuasive, especially WP:DEADNAME. the policy in the black community is that one should not "call someone out of their name", and i don't see any real reason to leave this page at its current title, but that's just my two cents. i will likely make a move request unless anyone can provide a persuasive reason to leave it at this title. Daddyelectrolux (talk) 20:52, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Daddyelectrolux, considering that there have been four unsuccessful requested moves within the past three years, each with essentially the same rationale, such a request could be viewed as disruptive. I don't see WP:DEADNAME used as an argument in the discussions but rather WP:COMMONNAME, which dictates that Wikipedia use the name that is most commonly used (as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable, English-language sources) for the article title. That is policy. Unless you intend to refute that "Kanye West" is his COMMONNAME per that policy, the chances of a successful move appear slim. Throast{{ping}} me! just like everyone else, Ye has the right to self-determination. Kanye West is a slave name, and should only be refrenced once in the opening line. the page should be changed to Ye (Artist) with all refrences to "Kanye" or "West" being replaced with "Ye". thank you. Shrub4TheDub (talk) 23:39, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The first paragraph currently says "West has won 24 Grammy Awards, the joint tenth-most of all time". However, I believe it's actually the joint eleventh-most of all time, according to the cited list. Abhatt349 (talk) 06:23, 30 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's been corrected. Throast{{ping}} me! (talk | contribs) 17:25, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The following should be in the legal problems section and not at the top of the page after his name and what he does for a living.
"A subject of widespread controversy and public interest, West is a central figure in contemporary pop culture."
The following paragraph was in the introduction and should stay in the introduction and nowhere else.
"One of the world's best-selling music artists with 160 million records sold, West has won 24 Grammy Awards, the joint 11th-most of all time and most awarded for any hip hop artist jointly with Jay-Z. His other accolades include a Billboard Artist Achievement Award, a joint-record three Brit Awards for Best International Male Solo Artist, and the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award."
Please reverse this, there's no reason for the change. PolishGeico (talk) 15:41, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if the sentence added by 750h+ is well-supported by the article body as written ie doesn't approach WP:SYNTH. If it is, I don't see a reason to remove it from the first paragraph. Throast{{ping}} me! (talk | contribs) 17:19, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just saying can someone put it in the legal problems instead of the first paragraph? No one needs to get rid of it, just move it to the legal problems. If not, please give me access and I can do it myself.
Being "a subject of widespread controversy and public interest" is not a legal issue. Throast{{ping}} me! (talk | contribs) 19:56, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's almost exactly the same as the Taylor Swift article. He is a subject of widespread controversy and public interest, and he is a central figure in contemporary music. And PolishGeico, since when was his awards supposed to stay in the lead? That was never a rule, was it? Also its an extended confirmed article, you yourself cannot edit it, but you can request. 750h+ | Talk 07:58, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Whoever adds it, please include that the suspect was the other man and not Ye. Don't get it twisted. PolishGeico (talk) 07:08, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It might be worth mentioning that Kanye has recently declared himself to be a god (and later, THE God in a more monotheist approach) and that he has problems with his self-proclaimed faith. I figured it might be worth mentioning since a celebrity claiming to be a literal deity, which is not a very orthodox approach to any faith, let alone Christianity, is at the very least: notable enough to mention. I've never really cared for Kanye which is why I'm feeling a tiny bit too lazy to mention his ludicrous godhood claims and cite the appropriate sources needed to verify he made such remarkable claims. to say "... most awarded for any hip hop artist along with Jay-Z" at the end of the sentence, for the sole reason that it reads slightly better. The word "joint" is used earlier in the sentence and redundancy should generally be avoided when it is unnecessary. 2607:F470:6:4001:EC5B:5A0E:3B0D:4C2B (talk) 05:49, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Change the link in the word "memes" in the part that talks about Kanye West and Taylor Swift in 2009 from the article "Meme" to "Internet meme". Swissairproud001 (talk) 01:10, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
