In mid sentence: "Border collie" or "border collie"?[edit]

May I cast a first vote for "Border collie", by the logic that "the Borders" is a name for a region, and we would write "When people see French poodles, they...".

AFTER we come to a consensus on this... or after, say, 2/2023, if no one has contested my arguement... getting the capitalization consistent thoughout the article might be worth the effort? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tkbwik (talkcontribs) 13:24, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Would you reiterate your position? I don't see that it's presently on this talk page, and if it's already archived that could hamper the discussion. ~TPW 15:06, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Standardised breed names should be capitalised, so the name should always be written as Border Collie except in quotes. Traumnovelle (talk) 18:43, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's correct, details are at MOS:LIFE. 184.152.68.190 (talk) 18:49, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Life Span section[edit]

In this section it states: Additional causes of death are Collie eye anomaly Hip dysplasia Epilepsy Hearing loss[13] Elbow dysplasia Addison Disease It really isn't possible for a collie to die from hearing loss, or Elbow Dysplasia. The source indicates that these are more common in the breed and I will amendBobBadg (talk) 13:52, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization of breed[edit]

I rather laboriously changed all the instances of "Border Collie" that weren't in titles to lowercase "border collie", more in the interest of consistency than owing to any personal preference. Only afterwards I noticed that "Irish Setter" was consistently capitalized in that breed's article, suggesting that, as Traumnovelle pointed out when he reverted, the names of other breeds are also capitalized. That's fine, but I checked and there are now forty instances of lowercase "border collie" in the article. I'm too B/border C/collied out to bother with this further, but perhaps someone would like to fix it (unless there's some sense to the on-again off-again capitalization that I've missed). I didn't notice that myself, I will go ahead and change all instances (besides those in quotes which may need checking). There isn't any official consensus on capitalisation but the vast majority of pages capitalise standardised breeds. In academic writing there is a split between the two.
