Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Important verses from the Bible
Appearance
Important verses from the Bible was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was to delete.
- Not encyclopedic, as well as destined to have numerous inherent problems due simply to the page's title, including POV (important to whom?/why is X verse > Y verse?), and verifiability (important how/when/where/why etc). Further, it's been around for about a year, and only one verse has been added. Arcuras 16:00, Nov 16, 2004 (UTC)

- Oh, don't grovel! One thing I can't stand, it's people groveling. Erm..delete. Wyllium 16:09, 2004 Nov 16 (UTC)
- Delete. This is Wikiquote material in any case. Smerdis of Tlön 16:14, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- "And so did Moses close his arms, and the great waters came crushing down, enveloping the Egyptian army" - or, in this case, this article. Delete. Dr Chicken

- Delete. Not a good start for anything. Smerdis of Tlön is right that selected Bible extracts belong in Wikiquote, not here. This article is a good counterexample for those who assert that all short, low-quality articles are worth keeping because they "will grow" by some magic organic process that does not require the existence of pools of knowledgeable people who care about the topic. - Delete: I profoundly mistrust the "will grow" argument, since it seems the same argument can be used to say "will get entered again." At any rate, this article is a collection of verses, and it would be inappropriate to -source it in this form. Many of the passages are already available at WikiSource, and if Wikisource doesn't already have the entire KJV, it's just a matter of no one having done it, yet, since there are many, many public domain transcriptions available. We shouldn't send over clippings, when the whole book is already there. Geogre 21:07, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete; title itself is subjective. Maybe a list of verses that are quoted the most often would be ok, but not a list of the "most important". --Idont Havaname 22:51, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete. I agree with Idont Havaname; the title is inherently POV. [[User:Livajo|力伟|☺]] 00:05, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete, poor title, and probably a good thing it's gone relatively unnoticed so it has so little content (and hence conflict). Shane King 01:17, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)

- Delete - fundametalists will tell you all verses in the Bible are important. Some atheists might tell you that virtually none of them are. So we're left with a totally arbitrary decision as to what goes in here and what doesn't if it's kept. Grutness 11:48, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete. Or, if significantly expanded, move it to a more NPOV title ("important" obviously won't work). Maybe this could be renamed References to The Bible, and continue on in the style of References to Star Trek and References to Star Trek in The Simpsons et al ;)
