October 2004[edit]

I added some of the text on Balmain and am a long term resident of the suburb. I would be happpy to hear people's comments and suggestions. michael@iiiglobal.com —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 144.133.200.125 (talkcontribs) 00:37, 20 October 2004 (UTC)

Balmain East[edit]

203.217.94.144 claims that Balmain East is not a suburb as such. According to the Geographical Names Act 1966, NSW suburb designation is the responsibility of the Geographical Names Board.[1] According to the them, Balmain East is a fully fledged suburb.[2]. I'll revert the change, and make the relevent changes to Balmain East. Chovain 23:04, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Residents[edit]

I decided to be bold and made some changes to the "Famous residents" section. I hope noone minds, but I think the changes were important to avoid the list getting out of control with unconfirmed and non-notable additions. I'm not overly attached to the new format, so feel free to massacre it if you like :). Chovain 08:58, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Film trivia[edit]

I've condensed the new film facts into a new trivia section, as I don't feel there's enough there (yet) to warrant a new section. Certianly, this could probably be expanded, and get its own section. As it stood, the content did not confirm that Balmain had "featured extensively", as claimed in the Literature section's intro.

I've also added a couple of (very weak) references for the two bits of trivia. I'd like to see these improved. Mark Chovain 07:51, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notable residents[edit]

I removed Mark Hoath and Paddy Hall from the list of notable residents.

  • I can't find a reliable reference indicating that Mark Hoath is actually a resident. I also can't find anything that indicates he is notable.
  • I assume "Paddy" Hall is actually Sean Angus? I'd like to see him listed as much as anyone (great guy to drink with), but I really don't think he passes the notability criteria. If he'd get off his bum and write us another movie, we might be able to get him back in ;). Mark Chovain 11:31, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Balmain Rugby[edit]

In 2005 the Balmain Rugby Union club was revived. I'm not sure if this was actually a revival of the old club or just a new club that started. They still play in black & gold. I think it should be mentioned in the article under the sporting section. I don't really know enough about it though. Hopefully someone else would.

Image copyright problem with File:1 c-iron cove-balmain1, new south wales.jpg[edit]

The image File:1 c-iron cove-balmain1, new south wales.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

The image that I removed (Henry Parkes house) was removed due to extreme poor quality as it is a fake image with faked colour. Perhaps an ordinary photo with natural colour would suffice. Perhaps I could take another over the weekend. One more thing, you cannot have a page locked down just so you can have you own way with the article. ***Adam*** (talk) 12:06, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
