Page name

This article was recently (and without notice) moved from Randy Jackson to Randy Jackson (American Idol). I think the move was a mistake, for the following reasons:

1. This Randy Jackson is much more accomplished and well-known than the brother-of-Michael one, who wasn't even an original member of the Jackson 5
2. The person who did the move never changed the 40 or so links to the old article, so now people have to go through the plain Randy Jackson page to get to this article
3. This Randy Jackson has had more roles than just judging on American Idol, so even the article title is a bit misleading
4. There are other phil Jacksons out there, including the above reporter and a 1950s baseball player who was in the major leagues for 10 years.

Therefore, I propose to move the current Randy Jackson page to Randy Jackson (disambiguation). Then I'll move this article to Randy Jackson, adding the Otherpeople template. Now all the existing links to this Randy Jackson to be correct again. Links to the brother-of-Michael will also remain correct. I'll fix up the 2 or 3 articles that link to Randy Jackson (American Idol) to link to just Randy Jackson. I'll then update the new (disambiguation) page with these two Randy Jacksons, and have red links or no-link mentions to the baseball one and perhaps the reporter one if he seems notable enough.

In other words, I propose to handle Randy Jackson the same way that Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Michael Jordan, Michael Howard, and other famous people with common names are handled.

Jackson 5???

It says under Early Years, "His first big break in the industry came when he played with the Jackson Five... and was adopted by the Jackson Family." Is this true? That basically contradicts what it says under Personal Life: "Contrary to a widely circulated story, Randy Jackson is not related to actor Samuel L. Jackson, nor to pop star Michael Jackson. [1] (Michael Jackson's brother is another Randy Jackson and was a member of The Jackson 5.)" --Jkisch 02:30, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

This entire article needs a ton of work. It is filled with grammatical and spelling errors (Harry Krishna?!) and tons of unattributed information, much of which seems, on the surface at least, to be untrue.Zeppelined 19:13, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

This is a Wikipedia talkpage regarding editing of the subject at hand, not a message baord for the celebrity. Randy Jackson most likely does NOT have anything to do with this article. Only verifiable information is supposed be published on Wikipedia, so if there is nothing about Randy Jackson's early life, it likely means no one has access to any verifiable information regarding his childhood, early life, etc. Another thing to conisder: Wikipedia is NOT the greatest source for a school assignment. The text of the articles can be radically changed by ayone, which affects its veracity as a credible source. On some of the more scientific articles, Wikipedia can be a good starting point for research, but regarding biographical informaiton on most people, it's a waste of time to utilize as yrou sole source. He was NOT in the Jackson 5. The Jackson 5 were all born in Gary, Indiana. How could he be the only Jackson child born in Baton Rouge? As a citizen of Baton Rouge, I think I would know if those Jacksons came from my city. He grew up in Baton Rouge, went to Robert E. Lee High School on Lee Drive. His house was close to the gates of Louisiana State University. His first major artist he worked with was Irma Thomas, a singer based out of New Orleans, then Billy Cobham. I am also pretty sure he is of no relation to Samuel L. Jackson. The Biography program on the Biography channel made no connection between those two Jacksons either.

Gear He Uses

This isn't in my normal area of Wiki to work on, so it's up to the rest of you; but would it be worthwhile to include information on the gear that Randy uses? All I know is that he uses SWR bass amps. Not sure if it would be a benefit to list various gear that he has often used during his career, but it might be of use to Wiki users. KISS??

The only "Jackson" that has ever been associated with KISS, in my recollection, is Michael James Jackson, their producer in the mid-80's. Where in the world is there ANY support for Randy Jackson having played ever, at all, at any time, on any studio album or live, with KISS?? I know Gene Simmons didn't always play bass on all KISS studio albums, but I have never seen anything anywhere that indicates Randy Jackson played bass on any KISS recording, and there has never been another bass player in KISS on any tour. A little support for this claim might help, but I believe it's class "A" BS. Until anyone shows otherwise, I've removed it. Deuce1231 (talk) 05:51, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

According to the Internet, it was for Gladys Knight's 2001 record "At Last," which he apparently co-produced. According to Grammy.com, that is not the case. NARAS gives out a lot of GRAMMY certificates for collaborators on records that don't win their specific category (e.g. - a writer on the Album of the Year wouldn't get a statue, but they can request a certificate from NARAS to indicate their involvement with the project). Not done: How do we know that's the same Randy Jackson? There are actually a bunch of them on that site, and I don't see any songs on that listing that he's known for (especially Dance Like There's No Tomorrow and Real Love).
