Regarding how to use the term "reggae" in the box -- I'd say match the article, which is unfortunate, because reggae seems a bit confused itself and could use a good rewrite.

As I see it, there are two ways the word reggae can be used:

  1. Meaning roots reggae, dub and immediate descendents, therefore excluding ska, rocksteady and mento
  2. Basically as a synonym for Jamaican music (because it would include all genres from the island, excluding only oddities like some Jamaican polka band or something and)

Since there's already a term for Jamaican music (music of Jamaica), we should use meaning number one. The first paragraph of both articles should make it clear what topic is being discussed, of course.

So, to conclude, I think ska and rocksteady should be moved to precursors with their own genreboxes. Tuf-Kat 22:41, Apr 1, 2004 (UTC)
